Site Accountant

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer and working closely with site management, the Site Accountant will be responsible for day-to-day site accounting, accounts payable, purchase order administration,
payroll preparation
, cost tracking, and various site administrative responsibilities. This role is well suited to an accounting professional who enjoys working closely with operations, can operate independently, and is comfortable working in a project or field environment.

Key Responsibilities Accounting and Financial Support
  • Manage and coordinate the site accounts payable process, including invoice review, coding, supporting documentation, and approval follow-up.
  • Review vendor invoices against purchase orders, contracts, and evidence of receipt of goods or services.
  • Prepare accounts payable information for payment processing and coordinate with the corporate finance team.
  • Prepare payroll and benefits information for site employees and contractors, including review of hours, timesheets, payroll changes, and other required information.
  • Assist with month‑end close activities, including preparation of accruals, reconciliations, prepaid schedules, and other supporting schedules.
  • Assist with bank, credit card, employee expense, and other account reconciliations as required.
  • Maintain appropriate accounting records and supporting documentation in accordance with Company policies and procedures.
  • Assist with fixed asset and equipment tracking.
  • Support external audit, tax, and financial reporting requests relating to site activities.
  • Assist the CFO with other accounting and financial reporting matters as required.
Project Cost and Budget Reporting
  • Track site expenditures by project, workstream, vendor, and cost category.
  • Prepare regular budget-to-actual and project cost reports for site and corporate management.
  • Assist with preparation and maintenance of site forecasts and budgets.
  • Monitor outstanding commitments, purchase orders, and expected future expenditures.
  • Identify unusual expenditures, coding issues, or potential budget variances and work with site personnel to resolve them.
  • Support management in understanding project costs and financial information.
Purchase Orders and Procurement Administration
  • Oversee the site purchase order process and ensure purchase orders are appropriately initiated, approved, documented, and maintained.
  • Assist site personnel with preparation and administration of purchase orders.
  • Monitor open purchase orders, outstanding commitments, change orders, and PO balances.
  • Review invoices for consistency with approved purchase orders and investigate discrepancies.
  • Coordinate vendor setup and maintenance of vendor documentation.
  • Assist with maintaining procurement records, contracts, quotes, and supporting approvals.
  • Help ensure compliance with Company procurement and spending authorization policies.
Site Administration
  • Act as the primary day‑to‑day finance and administrative contact for site personnel.
  • Assist with general site administrative activities as required.
  • Support preparation, tracking, and maintenance of safety‑related reporting and administrative records.
  • Assist with maintenance of employee, contractor, training, and site compliance documentation.
  • Coordinate administrative information required by corporate management, consultants, insurers, regulators, and other stakeholders.
  • Maintain organized electronic and physical records for site accounting and administrative activities.
  • Support site management with other administrative and operational requirements as needed.
Qualifications
  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related discipline.
  • Approximately 2–7 years of relevant accounting experience.
  • Experience in mining, exploration, construction, engineering, manufacturing, or another project-based environment is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with accounts payable, payroll preparation, purchase orders, reconciliations, and month‑end accounting.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills and ADP.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently with limited day‑to‑day supervision.
  • CPA designation or progress toward a CPA designation is considered an asset but is not required.
