Work Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. or 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Includes a 30-minute lunch break.

Job Summary

Join the CGCC Library team as a Library Specialist. In this paraprofessional role you will perform a range of technical and public service tasks, including coordinating with vendors, liaising with faculty on collection development, reconciling invoices, creating displays, and interacting with students.

Essential Functions
  • 30% Assist in identifying, ordering, and processing purchases of physical and electronic library materials using vendor platforms.
  • 25% Perform basic cataloging and electronic resource record management using a library services platform.
  • 15% Organize and maintain purchasing records and budget expenditures per established procedures.
  • 15% Assist patrons with library services and policies, including circulation support duties.
  • 10% Assist in electronic database/software subscription purchases and contract life‑cycle management procedures.
  • 5% Create new book displays and perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution and one year of experience in library support services such as library information resources, circulation services and equipment coordination.

OR an equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full‑time work experience sufficient to perform the essential duties.

Desired Qualifications
  • In‑person customer service experience in an educational and/or public sector setting or related commercial/retail work setting.
  • Paraprofessional library experience using a library services platform (e.g., ExLibris, Polaris, Symphony) in areas such as Acquisitions, Cataloguing, Circulation, Debt management, Interlibrary loans, Reports.
  • Experience processing library materials (books, DVDs, serials, electronic resources).
  • Experience with budget monitoring, tracking and records management related to purchasing.
  • Proficient computer skills (email, downloading, file attachment & maintenance), Google Drive, Microsoft Office, internet browsers, office technology.
  • Experience working with multicultural and economically mixed populations.
  • One year of relevant full‑time MCCCD experience within the past two years.
  • Experience in other community college systems or higher education institutions is valued.
Special Working Conditions
  • Lifting:
    May be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs.
  • Computer:
    May be required to sit for prolonged periods and view a computer monitor.
