Under general supervision,perform administrative and library clerical duties that support a wide range of traditional and online library services for Ak-Chin Indian Community Library including copy and original cataloging, collection development, materials processing, technical support, general office clerical support, and assisting library users with reference and other library requests

Minimum QualificationsAssociate in Arts and library experience or actively pursuing an Associate in Arts and one year library experience; OR a combination of education and/or work experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position. Must be able to work evenings and Saturdays. Must possess a valid Arizona driver’s license and be able to meet the Community’s insurance carrier requirements.
Must be able to complete and pass an extensive background check.
- Assumes operational responsibility for the library’s daily operations in the absence of the Library Manager or Librarian
- Assist with collection development, acquire library materials, prepare Purchase Requests for submission to Library Manager to approval, receive and process library materials, track orders and invoices, evaluate statistics within the catalog to determine the most popular materials.
- Performs customer services and receptionist duties by checking books in and out, shelving books, assisting patrons, creating new library cards, answering phones, creating documents, copying, filing, assisting in library events, programs, and various general office duties.
- Monitors on-line ordering, receiving and invoicing of all items requested by Library Manager; submits claims and reconciles shipment, invoice and statement discrepancies with vendors and service providers.
- Organizes and coordinates the annual inventory of the library collection
- Assists in planning and implementing programs such as computer classes, book discussion groups, and other library programs that promote literacy, assists Library Manager with program planning that includes generating publicity, writing newspaper articles, budgeting, purchasing needed supplies, and preparing exhibits and displays. Gather statistics and evaluate outcomes, and communicate in front of groups of children or adults.
- Develops detailed financial and statistical records and special reports for the Library Manager.
- Search, edit, and create bibliographic records for library materials according to current cataloging standards, create and edit item records, add authority records, match subject headings in the database to Library of Congress authority records, resolve duplicate records, and respond to cataloging questions by phone or email from affiliate libraries.
- Troubleshoots printers, copiers, computers, and other peripheral equipment, work with IS to resolve issues.
- Promotes and adheres to the workplace values of accountability, commitment, and teamwork to help enrich lives beyond expectation.
- Maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, customer records, and restricted information
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
- Skill in operating a computer (30-40 wpm) and related software applications, i.e. Windows, Word, and Excel.
- Skill in filing and sorting alphabetically and numerically.
- Working knowledge of basic office procedures and ability to use office equipment (fax, copy machine, etc.)
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patrons and co-workers.
- Ability to lift up to 10 pounds frequently
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to interpret and explain library policies and procedures to staff and patrons in a pleasant manner.
- Knowledge of the Ak-Chin Indian Community culture, customs and traditions.
- Knowledge of library information and computer technology.
- Knowledge of cataloging rules and regulations, library classification, and reference/collection resources.
- Knowledge of automated library information systems.
- Knowledge of library practices, policies and procedures.
