Position: ELECTION ASSISTANT - TEMPORARY

Position Summary

Under direction of the Elections Director, the Elections Assistant is responsible for conducting elections requiring initiative and considerable judgment;
Performs related work as required.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Composes and prepares correspondence, election forms and training documents
  • Answers inquiries from the public, county management and departments concerning election matters
  • Prepares and submits for publication all legal notices as required
  • Prepares all necessary documentation, supplies and personnel for election activities
  • Assists the Elections Director in conducting election classes of all election boards, set-up and transportation of crews
  • Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate
  • Successful completion of the Secretary of State’s Election Officer Certification Program
  • Working knowledge of governmental operations
  • Two (2) years’ experience with office procedures and filing systems
  • Familiarity with election procedures
  • Driver License
  • Registered voter
Required Knowledge, Skill & Ability
  • Considerable knowledge of Arizona Revised Statutes as they apply to preparation and conduction of elections
  • Considerable knowledge of office procedures and filing systems
  • Good knowledge of spelling, grammar, sentence structures and punctuation
  • Working skill in the use of computer systems and standard office equipment; extensive skill with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Election Software Programs
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
  • Ability to work in or with a political body
  • Ability to lift heavy election equipment/supplies
  • Reliable, responsible and capable of working with minimum supervision
  • Able to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
  • Ability to be deployed to remote areas of the County
  • Work in adverse conditions for extended periods of time
  • Periodically or routinely lift heavy items up to 25 lbs. and carry long distances up to 20 feet
  • Bend or stoop repeatedly or continually over time; walk over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces
  • Remain in a standing position for extended periods of time

  • Annual Salary Range: $20.37 Hourly (competitive salary based on qualifications)
