Chemical Buyer
The Buyer is responsible for optimally purchasing chemicals (Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients, Excipients, and Purchased Finished Goods) or other requested items as needed. This position is preferably based at our Swedesboro, NJ site or Chandler, AZ Site.
What you'll do:
- Conduct procurement activities within the firm's applicable Policies and Procedures, and applicable laws and regulations
- Collaborate with business unit requestors to ensure purchases meet the quality, cost, and functionality requirements; and analyze forecast requirements to meet sales demand (Demand planning/ROP management)
- Make procurement decisions with respect to cost, quality & delivery reliability via Blanket Orders and individual Purchase Orders
- Execute the purchase order process effectively and efficiently
- Process change orders and requests for quotes with suppliers
- Ensure continuous, reliable supply of goods and services that drives an uninterrupted flow
- Source and verify vendors are qualified, evaluate competitive bids, and negotiate prices and terms for goods
- Effectively build relationships with suppliers to expedite and act with urgency
- Purchase materials and supplies at the most favorable terms for the company
- Track purchases, monitor vendor quality, and maintain a database of vendor information
- Collaborate with business leaders to support regular supplier performance evaluations
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge in procurement practices and technologies as well as in market trends related to assigned categories of goods and services
Who you are:
- Strong analytical skills and ability to work effectively on a team
- Have organization, planning and prioritization skills to execute multiple projects simultaneously while adapting to changes in business requirements in a fast-paced environment
- Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Possess the ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
- Analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
- Convert metric units and work with mathematical concepts such as fractions, percentages, and ratios and apply to practical situations.
- Working knowledge of procurement tools, processes and practices for purchasing goods via electronic methods with vendors
- Help develop applicable Procurement policies, practices, and methods
- Ability to network and negotiate with vendors, building long-standing relationships
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation skills
What you've done:
- Have 3+ years of purchasing or related experience
- Worked with ERPs, preferably with MAS
500, SAP, Coupa, Ariba, or similar - Utilized Excel heavily
Bonus points:
- Obtained a Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred
- Experience working in the pharmaceutical or chemical industry preferred
- Experience working with Coupa Spend Management tool
- Experience purchasing for more than 1 facility
