POSITION SUMMARY:

The Underground Leadman assists the Underground Foreman in supervising and coordinating the work of the underground crew while gaining the skills and experience necessary for future advancement to a Foreman role. This position plays a key role in ensuring safety, quality, and productivity on the job site.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Assist the Underground Foreman in overseeing daily operations and ensuring safety protocols are followed at all times

* Provide direction and guidance to crew members to ensure efficient and quality work

* Perform daily site walkthroughs to verify proper materials, tools, and equipment usage

* Work closely with the Foreman to resolve on-site issues or conflicts

* Monitor progress and maintain communication to ensure tasks meet project schedules

* Track and record daily work quantities and submit reports as needed

* Assist in daily Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) and participate in weekly Toolbox Talks

* Ensure trenches are excavated, shored, or sloped according to safety standards and specifications

* Coordinate equipment and material needs with the Foreman and Dispatch

* Serve as a point of contact for crew members and provide mentorship and support

* Perform hands-on work alongside the crew as needed

* Continuously develop skills in underground utility installation, leadership, and project management

* Perform other duties as assigned by site supervision

REQUIRED

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

* Solid understanding of underground sewer, water, and storm drain installation

* Knowledge of trench safety, OSHA standards, and confined space procedures

* Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to motivate a team

* Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and specifications

* Strong organizational and problem-solving skills

* Willingness to learn and grow into a Foreman role

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

* High school diploma or GED required

* 5+ years of underground utility construction experience

* At least 2 years in a leadership or mentoring role preferred

* Familiarity with MAG (Maricopa Association of Governments) specifications preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

* Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including heat and dust

* Regular exposure to construction site hazards and moving equipment

* Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 pounds

* Strong manual dexterity and coordination to operate tools and equipment

* Ability to perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods
