Durus Industrial is seeking an Estimator – Level I (Preconstruction Support) to join our growing preconstruction team. This position is intended for individuals interested in building a long-term career in industrial construction estimating and project development.

The Estimator – Level I will support preconstruction activities by assisting with quantity takeoffs, bid document review, subcontractor and vendor solicitation, estimate development, and project turnover activities. This role works under the direction of company leadership and supports estimating efforts across industrial, mining, energy, infrastructure, structural steel, concrete, and mechanical construction projects.

This is a junior estimating role focused on takeoffs, data development, and learning Durus estimating systems under supervision.

The position will be based in our Chandler, Arizona office; however, travel may be required to support site visits, pre-bid meetings, and project turnover activities throughout Arizona and neighboring states.

Reporting Structure

Reports To: General Manager (Preconstruction Function)

Works Closely With: Construction Managers during project turnover and project startup activities

Primary Responsibilities Estimating Support
  • Assist with quantity takeoffs from drawings and specifications.
  • Support estimate development under the direction of company leadership.
  • Assist with collecting and organizing subcontractor and vendor pricing.
  • Review plans, specifications, and bid documents for estimating purposes.
  • Maintain estimate files, bid tabs, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with development of labor, equipment, material, and subcontract pricing information.
  • Support estimate reviews and bid preparation activities.
Bid & Proposal Support
  • Assist with preparing proposal documentation and bid deliverables.
  • Support subcontractor and vendor outreach efforts.
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits as assigned.
  • Help organize project information and bid documentation.
  • Flag potential scope questions, inconsistencies, or missing information for management review.
Project Turnover Support
  • Participate in project turnover meetings following award.
  • Assist with organizing estimate documentation for operations teams.
  • Support development of project budgets and cost code structures.
  • Provide estimating input when requested during project execution.
Systems & Documentation
  • Maintain organized estimating records and databases.
  • Assist with historical cost data collection and maintenance.
  • Support implementation of estimating standards and procedures.
  • Learn and utilize HCSS Heavy Bid, Bluebeam, Excel, and other estimating tools.
Role Boundaries

This role supports estimating efforts and does not independently own bid strategy, final pricing decisions, client negotiations, or project pursuit activities.

Final pricing decisions, proposal strategy, client communications, and bid approvals remain the responsibility of company leadership.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of estimating, construction, engineering, project coordination, or related experience.
  • Field construction experience is considered valuable and may substitute for estimating experience.
  • Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field but not required.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with Bluebeam, HCSS Heavy Bid, Excel, or similar software is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to learn.
  • Valid driver's license required.
