Job Summary

The Student Services Specialist performs enrollment services functions and provides student support in admissions, records and registration, the Call Center, and the Coyote Welcome Desk. This role operates in a fast-paced One Stop Enrollment Center, delivering accurate admissions, records, registration, and payment-related services to new and continuing students with a high level of customer service. It uses strong problem-solving and communication skills to assist students with a wide range of enrollment services questions.

The role supports students, faculty, staff, and the community, collaborating to help students achieve their academic goals. The Student Services Specialist Senior coordinates office workflow and provides training to other staff members.

Core Responsibilities
  • Comprehensive Student Support:
    Provide accurate, high-quality guidance to students regarding admissions, registration, academic records, and payment processes.
  • Frontline Engagement:
    Serve as a primary point of contact across the One Stop Enrollment Center, Call Center, and Coyote Welcome Desk.
  • Problem Resolution:
    Use strong communication and critical-thinking skills to resolve complex student inquiries and support academic success.
  • Collaborative Environment:
    Promote a service-first, solutions-focused culture and collaborate with students, faculty, staff, and community members from diverse backgrounds.
Essential Functions
  • 50% - Supports the Office of Admissions, Records and Registration with day-to-day tasks including general admissions, registration, transcript evaluation, data entry, graduation, front-line or multi-phone service, and international student admission. Includes student, faculty, and staff support; enrollment verifications and related documents.
  • 20% - Performs general office functions such as answering phones, faxing, preparing correspondence, assisting at the Welcome Desk, and other duties as assigned.
  • 10% - Assists with Special Admissions population including high school partners.
  • 10% - Assists with coordination of projects for special enrollment populations.
  • 10% - Provides administrative support that may impact service to other areas of Student Affairs.
Minimum Qualifications

Associate's Degree from a regionally accredited institution, and one (1) year of full-time equivalent student services or college teaching experience or related experience in educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs.

OR

High school diploma/GED, and two (2) years of full-time equivalent student services or college teaching experience or related experience in educational program development and coordination, student advisement, financial aid, or related student development programs.

Desired Qualifications
  • One (1) year of experience in an educational environment providing support services in higher education.
  • One (1) year of experience working with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • One (1) year of customer service experience with high public contact (in person, phone, and email).
  • One (1) year of experience in student services (advisement, counseling, admissions) with online Student Information Systems (e.g., People Soft) and familiarity with federal/state requirements (e.g., lawful presence/residency).
  • One (1) year of experience working in a team environment.
  • Spanish language proficiency.
  • One (1) year of full-time, relevant MCCCD experience within the previous two years.
  • Experience in other community college systems or higher education is valued; external candidates are encouraged to apply.
