Position: Financial Aid Office Assistant - Federal Work Study

Job Summary

Financial Aid & Scholarships Services is looking for a student worker to assist our department with serving students both in person and online. Duties include scanning documents that are received in-person, via fax, email, and mail; awarding scholarships; receiving scholarship checks; conducting email outreach; contacting donors; helping during Financial Aid workshops; and other special projects as needed.

In order to qualify for a Federal Work-Study (FWS) job, a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be on file for the current award year and have eligible financial needs based on the college requirements.

  • FWS is a need-based, federally funded program.
  • FWS requires the completion of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and confirmation of federal work-study eligibility as determined by the financial aid office.
  • FWS does not directly pay for tuition, and funds are only available to eligible students attending a minimum of six (6) degree applicable hours in a federal student aid eligible program.
  • The FWS award amount is based on your FAFSA results and college funding availability, which will determine the number of hours available to work while supporting the students academic goals.

Essential Functions
  • Scanning documents received in-person, via fax, email, and mail.
  • Awarding scholarships.
  • Receiving and processing scholarship checks.
  • Conducting email outreach to students and donors.
  • Contacting donors regarding scholarships.
  • Assisting during Financial Aid workshops, both virtually and in-person.
  • Supporting other special projects as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Familiarity with basic office software (, Microsoft Office Suite) and email systems, as well as the ability to learn new software and systems quickly.
