Job Summary:
Monitor the behavior of students assigned to the Alternative Learning Center, manage morning and lunch detentions, and maintain accurate records.
- Supervise students assigned to the Alternative Learning Center
- Monitor the activities of students assigned to the Alternative Learning Center Program
- Tutor Alternative Learning Center students as appropriate
- Confer with teachers and administration to communicate the progress of individual students
- Perform record keeping to maintain documentation of participation in program
- Attend meetings as assigned to share information and/or improve skills/knowledge
- Maintain regular and on‑time attendance
- Perform other related duties to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
- Assist with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Associate’s Degree or 60 college credit hours required at time of hire OR pass the Para Pro Test provided by the district free of charge
- Models the attributes and skills of the MPS Portrait of a Graduate
- Demonstrates commitment to the MPS Promise that every student is known by name, served by strength and need, and graduates ready for college, career and community
- Computer proficiency to include use of basic software applications (Word, Excel, etc.)
- Ability to work well with students, parents, district personnel and general public
- Experience with adolescent age children
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written); maintain confidentiality
- Ability to work with constant interruptions, meet deadlines and with minimum supervision
- Ability to tutor students in reading, math and English
Physical Requirements
- Part of a learning center or resource room focused on academic support, tutoring, or intervention
- Daily interaction with small groups or individual students, often those needing extra academic help or accommodations
- Providing instructional support tailored to students' needs (reading, writing, math, study skills, etc.)
- Work may vary from pull-out sessions, in-class support, or standalone intervention blocks
- Designed to be welcoming, inclusive, and conducive to all types of learners, including those with disabilities
