Academic Coach (School)
The academic coach at the school provides support to classroom teachers, administrators, and students through modeling, collaborative planning, observing, coaching, team teaching, resource development, and facilitating study groups. In addition, academic coaches may provide systematic and explicit intervention for students.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Highly qualified in designated content areas
- Master's degree in an education-related field
- Knowledge of state standards and research-based instruction
- Demonstrated classroom teaching ability
- Demonstrated leadership skills
Core Job Functions:
- Create a classroom environment conducive to positive, effective instruction
- Facilitate instruction based on current research-based best practices in mathematics
- Provide individual diagnostic testing to assess student needs
- Participate in team reviews concerning the academic progress of at-risk students
- Attend scheduled meetings and parent conferences
- Plan and implement a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students
- Communicate objectives to students in a well-planned, organized manner using clear and precise language
- Communicate concerns and ideas with colleagues, students, parents, and the community in a positive, professional, and ethical manner
- Maintain accurate, complete, legible, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation
- Assume individual responsibilities which may be assigned by the principal/supervisor, and which may relate to committee work, student activities, student supervision or other planning and professional assignments
- Work closely with instructional services departments (curriculum, special education, Title, professional development) to actively seek out, develop, and implement new and promising best practices and/or programs to increase learning opportunities for all students
- Support teachers in curriculum implementation
- Develop and instruct professional development classes based on student achievement needs, site, and district goals
- Model research-based instructional techniques and strategies in the classroom, as well as conducting professional development
- Disaggregate and analyze test data, and then assist in the interpretation of the data for school improvement
- Perform other duties relating to the general job function as assigned by the supervisor

Physical Requirements:
- Positions in this classification often require physical activities such as stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, and sitting.
