Job Description:
Join a team that is shaping the future of advanced aerospace technologies. We are seeking a Structural Engineer to support our Mechanical & Energetics (M&E) department. In this role, you will work in a fast-paced environment collaborating with analysts, design engineers, and program managers to bring complex launch and missile systems to life.
Responsibilities- Perform a wide range of structural engineering tasks supporting the design, analysis, and testing of missile and launch vehicle systems.
- Calculate safety factors related to stress, stiffness, buckling, bolted joints, fracture, and other structural failure modes.
- Collaborate in a team environment to solve engineering challenges related to structural integrity.
- Apply structural mechanics principles to guide design engineers during preliminary and final design phases of flight and ground support structures.
- Learn and develop proficiency with structural analysis tools (e.g., FEMAP, NX NASTRAN, MathCAD).
- Interpret and apply engineering specifications and customer requirements to meet project objectives.
- Produce high-quality engineering documentation, reports, and presentations.
- Define appropriate test conditions, instrumentation, and qualification/acceptance criteria for flight structures.
- Gather, analyze, and interpret technical datasets such as flight data, test results, and material characterization reports.
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with 5 years of relevant engineering experience
, or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline with 3 years of relevant experience
. - Strong background in structural analysis with demonstrated work experience.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Familiarity with finite element analysis, classical stress/strain methods, statics, and structural mechanics.
- Proficiency with standard productivity tools (word processing, spreadsheets, etc.).
- Strong listening skills, ability to follow direction, and initiative to complete assignments independently and on time.
- Master’s or PhD in a related engineering field.
- Experience with high-performance flight structures.
- Experience with FEMAP and NX NASTRAN. Knowledge of ANSYS, ABAQUS, and similar tools is also valuable.
- Expertise in composite structural analysis and fracture mechanics.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
