Your OpportunityThe MCF (Mission Critical Facilities) Senior Project Engineer, Mechanical guides the technical design of our data center projects as subject‑matter expert, mentor, and resource to the technical team. This role delegates, leads, and directs the work of Project Engineers and Designers, conceptualizes and executes projects to ensure quality throughout the design process to meet client needs and expectations. The Senior Project Engineer also supervises and mentors junior staff and serves as a resource to other project engineers.
Key Responsibilities- Assists the business development team in new project pursuits by providing input on RFPs/RFQs and participating in project interviews and presentations.
- Manages the technical project process and scope of work within the discipline; reviews and tracks scope, schedule, and budgeted hours; resolves inconsistencies with the project manager.
- Delegates tasks to project engineers and designers within the discipline as appropriate.
- Follows the quality management process; conducts project reviews and approvals before all QA/QC reviews are completed by the technical authority.
- Builds and maintains strong client relations; understands and articulates project and design requirements, progress, challenges, and troubleshooting to clients and technical staff.
- Leads technical discussions and mechanical work groups with project stakeholders as a trusted advisor, identifying key requirements and adapting design to meet project objectives.
- Coordinates with all disciplines to fully integrate work and client requests into design.
- Acts as supervisor and resource to the technical design team; supports and assists staff education, training, and development.
- Participates actively in the data center engineering community to stay current with new and emerging requirements and technologies; attends meetings, seminars, conferences, and writes articles for trade magazines.
- Identifies opportunities to improve and standardize project deliverables across Stantec MCF business centers.
- Contributes to the development of design guides, technical memos, calculation templates, etc. related to data center design.
- Extensive experience in mission‑critical / data center design concepts.
- Experience working on large‑scale projects with varied stakeholders.
- Comprehensive knowledge of engineering practices, concepts, principles, codes, and standards in the discipline and basic knowledge of other disciplines.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to conceptualize and develop solutions for complex systems.
- Effective communication skills to convey scope, schedule, and budget to clients, co‑workers, and technical teams.
- Proficient at writing comprehensive reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.
- Proficient with applicable software (Autodesk, BIM 360, Revit, Trace 700); working knowledge of hydraulic modeling (e.g., Pipe‑Flo) and CFD software (e.g., Fluent, 6
Sigma) preferred. - Knowledge of the construction process and interaction with design activities.
- Organized, attentive to detail, flexible, and collaborative; able to train others and resolve complex problems independently.
- Accredited engineering degree or equivalent experience required.
- Minimum 10years of related industry experience preferred.
- Mission‑critical / data center experience required.
- PE license or other professional certification based on expertise required.
