The Chief Engineer is responsible for leading and creating product designs for internally or externally funded research and development programs, including the development of armor, blast‑attenuating seats, and other technologies for ground vehicles, aircraft, and a wide variety of infrastructure security needs. The Chief Engineer ensures new products meet specified requirements, oversees prototype build, qualification testing, and successful transition of products to production.
The role involves developing and/or reviewing technical documents to support CDRLS/SDRLS, design reviews, testing, requirements tracking, trade studies, bids, and proposals. It also requires developing key performance metrics for development projects, standard operating procedures, and supporting Armor Works’ business development team. The Chief Engineer operates autonomously, with minimal oversight, and works to grow individuals within the department.
- Managing and/or assisting with design and development of new technologies and products using Solid Works. (30%)
- Development/Review of technical documents (Design reviews, trade studies, test plans/reports, etc.). (30%)
- Oversee the maintenance of legacy production products and standard operating procedures/processes. (20%)
- Assist with bid and proposal efforts. (20%)
- US Citizen
- Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, or higher.
- Over 10 years of experience in product development & 5 or more years of experience related to Armor Works products.
- Strong work ethic, high attention to detail, excellent problem solving and organizational skills.
- Highly proficient with Solid Works and strong understanding of project management.
- Expert understanding of ASME Y14.100 and ASME-Y14.5 drawing & tolerance standards for design for manufacturability.
- Experience with DoD product development related to ground combat, marine, and aircraft platforms.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Over 3 years of experience with composite systems, electronics integration, signature management, & seating systems.
- Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, or higher.
