Job Summary
The Test Engineer II will be responsible for developing and executing design verification test plans, documenting and publishing the results. In collaboration with other departments, the engineer will define, document, analyze, perform, and interpret tests for products, systems, components, or modifications. This role involves identifying functional problems and suggesting resolutions, as well as helping to define internal testing methods and standards while maintaining reliability programs.
The position may require occasional travel as well as evening and weekend hours.
- Conduct mechanical/structural load testing of solar tracker components in a laboratory setting
- Conduct accelerated lifetime testing of motors, drive lines, gear boxes, etc.
- Prepare validation/performance qualification protocols for manufacturing processes, systems, or equipment
- Implement/schedule validation testing with other departments/personnel
- Study product characteristics or customer requirements to determine validation objectives and standards
- Create, populate, or maintain databases for tracking validation activities, test results, or validated systems
- Prepare, maintain, and review validation and compliance documentation
- Perform measurement and inspection metrology on parts and assemblies
- Develop equipment calibration procedures and work with external calibration entities
- Develop product testing methods and standards
- Record, data log, observe, and measure test results; process and analyze data records
- Prepare detailed reports or design statements
- Develop validation master plans, process flow diagrams, test cases, or standard operating procedures
- Conduct validation or qualification tests of new and existing processes, equipment, and software
- Maintain validation test equipment
- Support Product Development, Operations, Service and Quality teams
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline
- Three years or more of experience with mechanical/structural testing, lifecycle and fatigue testing
- Three years or more of experience operating data logging sensors and acquisition equipment
- Three years or more of experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite
- Travel, 5% to 10% field site testing
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, materials science & engineering, electrical, quality, or manufacturing engineering
- Highly creative with the ability to work on multiple projects concurrently
- Interest in product development
- Background in measurement, inspection, and metrology
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work well independently as well as part of a team
- Entry level experience in design of experiments, statistics, and equipment capability analysis
- LabVIEW programming or data acquisition experience
- Experience utilizing FEA, DFMA analysis
- Experience using 3D CAD software
- Ability to work across multiple organizations in a fast‑paced, smaller company environment
