Job Summary

Provide project field engineering specialization and expertise in work planning, material management, quantity verification, safety and quality control, technical inspection, testing, and subcontract coordination. Ensure field engineering activities operate safely, are complete, and comply with quality standards and project requirements.

Major Responsibilities
  • Prepare rigging plans, calculations, and specifications for rigging material and lift equipment; serve as point of contact for lift and haul plans.
  • Assist Rigging Superintendent and Certified Rigging Engineer by providing design support for rigging plan development.
  • Monitor general rigging work operations to ensure compliance with approved plans.
  • Review and approve heavy or oversized/overweight haul plans and medium, critical, or heavy lift plans, including subcontract rigging submittals.
  • Select appropriate crane(s), lifting hardware, and equipment for medium, heavy, and critical lifts.
  • Confirm BNI-WTP design engineer approval for heavy and critical lift calculations and attachment points.
  • Provide operational and technical direction to rigging crews and construction personnel on rigging processes, procedures, and requirements.
  • Offer operational guidance to senior management team as needed.
  • Maintain contact with engineering on plant layout, foundation design, vessel/module designs, and suitability of imposed loadings.
  • Collaborate with area superintendent and field engineering on constructability, equipment requirements, scheduling, ground preparations, and temporary facilities.
  • Plan lifts, sequence work, and approve lift plans.
  • Apply knowledge of rough terrain, all terrain, and crawler cranes; have structural steel installation experience.
  • Coordinate with Traffic & Logistics on feasibility of heavy/oversize haul, barging/heavy-lift shipping, marine operations, and temporary dock facilities.
  • Coordinate with Subcontracts on scope of work and technical reviews of lifting and heavy/oversize transport submissions.
  • Work with vendors and subcontractors, providing expertise in meetings and reviews for subcontract lifting and heavy oversized transport execution.
  • Coordinate with safety personnel on rigging-related safety procedures and requirements.
  • Establish relationships with client management as required.
  • Maintain contact with permitting authorities and regulatory agencies regarding transport and/or lifting of equipment.
  • Assess technical proposals of subcontractor bid packages for lifting and abnormal transport.
Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree (or international equivalent) and 8–10 years of relevant experience, or 12–14 years of relevant work experience.
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Advanced theoretical knowledge in lifting/hauling equipment and techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge of applicable codes and legislation related to lifting devices, rigging, and heavy haul transport operations.
  • Intermediate ability in structural design for lifting equipment and basic structures.
  • Advanced understanding of soil mechanics for lifting equipment and advanced ability in matting design; intermediate/advanced CAD drafting (AutoCAD preferable).
  • Prior knowledge of Bechtel's rigging planning and execution standards is preferable.
  • Advanced technical knowledge and experience with lifting equipment, alternative heavy lifting systems, mobile gantries, jacking, tailing, rigging equipment, load distribution systems, and transport/transfer of equipment.
  • Knowledge of the Project Environmental, Safety & Health Handbook and Bechtel Core Processes as they relate to responsibilities.
  • Understanding of project-specific environmental compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of Bechtel's "Zero Accidents" safety program.
  • Bechtel Certified Rigging Engineer (CRE) certification.
