Aeronautical Engineer 2
An opportunity is available for an Aeronautical Engineer 2 to support the Mechanical Engineering Energetics department. This role involves supporting a family of launch vehicles and hardware development, procurement, and testing. The position will perform various ordnance, pneumatic, hydraulic, and motor analysis and integration activities and will be based at the Chandler, AZ location.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform analysis, design, or testing of one or more moderately complex materials, structural components, and control systems for propulsion systems.
- Apply engineering principles, industry standards, and customer requirements to develop propulsion systems for launch vehicles, missile systems, and space mission systems.
- Select analytical data from previous products, mathematically define problems, and compute engineering characteristics consistent with specifications and design needs.
- Coordinate the strategy for leveraging multi-disciplinary design, optimization, and analysis processes to support mission requirements.
- Perform hands-on test support of pneumatic and hydraulic components and systems through functional and environmental testing.
- Lead an Integrated Product Team for a medium-sized subcontract, coordinating supplier change notifications, non-conformances, and hardware acceptance reviews.
- Conduct pre-launch engineering reviews, examine as-built vehicle hardware, assess flight readiness, and work with flight field teams.
- Conduct trade studies, evaluate alternative designs, and originate and develop constructive ideas to improve existing methods or processes.
- Determine engineering tasks required for project planning and execution, including detailed planning, conceptual designs, and risk analysis.
- Interact with internal and external customers to assist in defining system requirements and generating specifications.
- Travel up to 10% of the time to supplier and launch facilities.
Required Qualifications
Education:
A Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) is required.
Experience:
A minimum of 2 years of related engineering experience with a Bachelor's degree, or 0 years of related engineering experience with a Master's degree in STEM.
Technical
Skills:
Candidates must be a U.S. citizen and have experience in Aerospace Engineering, and must be able to obtain a DOD Secret clearance before starting.
Preferred Qualifications
- A degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
- Experience with MATLAB and Python.
- Experience with environmental testing and data acquisition equipment operation.
- Knowledge of configuration change management and supply chain management of subcontractors.
- Experience with hydraulics, pneumatics, and rocket motors.
- Experience presenting technical data to internal and external customers.
- Proficiency in failure investigation techniques.
- Candidates with an active DOD Secret Clearance are highly preferred for this role.
