Job Title:
Engineering Design Checker - Mechanical (Siemens NX / Teamcenter)
Job Description
This role supports a high‑visibility defense program as a Mechanical Engineering Design Checker, ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and manufacturability of complex mechanical design and drawing packages. You will work extensively with Siemens NX and Teamcenter in a largely paperless environment, applying expert‑level GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and Product Manufacturing Information (PMI) to support mission‑critical aerospace and defense systems. This position is on-site in Arizona and is intended as a contract-to-hire opportunity aligned with a senior Engineering Design role.
Responsibilities
+ Check mechanical drawing and design packages for proper content, clarity, and completeness, ensuring compliance with applicable industry and military standards.
+ Review designs for fit, function, manufacturability, and economy of fabrication, including detailed evaluation of tolerance analysis, hardware selection, and fitment on assembly prints.
+ Serve as a subject matter expert in GD&T, resolving interpretation issues on drawings and providing guidance to engineers and designers.
+ Verify and validate 3D models submitted to manufacturing using Siemens NX managed with Teamcenter, ensuring models and associated data accurately represent design intent.
+ Model fully defined components and assemblies efficiently using Siemens NX managed with Teamcenter, adhering to established modeling best practices.
+ Create and revise parametric drawings in conformance with established 3D modeling and drawing standards, including the integration of PMI (Product Manufacturing Information).
+ Review mechanical drawings with appropriate personnel, verifying completed work, dimensions, materials, and quantities to be used.
+ Collaborate closely with various engineering disciplines, Manufacturing, Quality, and other stakeholders to resolve design issues and ensure smooth transition to production.
+ Interface with external vendors as needed to clarify design requirements, resolve technical questions, and support manufacturability.
+ As requested, supervise and direct the activities of staff, providing technical oversight and mentoring on design and checking practices.
+ Perform related duties as assigned or required to support program objectives, schedule commitments, and budget constraints.
+ Use productivity tools such as Word, Excel, and Windows-based applications to document work, track issues, and communicate status.
+ Work quickly and accurately under schedule pressure while maintaining a high level of quality and demonstrating patience and professionalism.
+ Manage time and priorities effectively to meet on-time delivery metrics for drawing and model releases, supporting program schedules and cost targets.
Essential Skills
+ 15-20 years of mechanical design experience in defense, aerospace, or closely related industries, with possible experience in automotive.
+ At least 3 years of experience specifically as a Design Checker in DOD, aerospace, or automotive environments.
+ Expert-level proficiency in Siemens NX and Teamcenter, with an indicated proficiency level of 8/10 or higher.
+ Daily, hands-on use of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) with expert-level capability, including the ability to make corrections and act as a subject matter expert.
+ Thorough knowledge of GD&T per ASME Y14.5, with demonstrated recent experience applying these standards.
+ Strong mechanical design and CAD background, including experience with Unigraphics NX 9.0 or later.
+ Experience in DOD, military, or aerospace design environments, including work on complex mechanical and energetics systems.
+ Proficiency using Siemens NX in a Teamcenter-managed environment for both 3D modeling and drawing creation.
+ Ability to work effectively with PMI (Product Manufacturing Information) in a paperless program environment, consolidating written assembly/work instructions, dimensions, and data sheets into the digital drawing set.
+ Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to clearly explain design issues and corrections.
+ Ability to work quickly and accurately under schedule pressure while maintaining high quality standards and exhibiting patience.
+ Strong time management and organizational skills, with a track record of meeting deadlines and supporting on-time release of drawings and models.
+ Comfort with standard office software including Word, Excel, and Windows operating systems.
+ U.S. citizenship with the ability to obtain a Secret security clearance.
Additional
Skills & Qualifications
+ Advanced GD&T certifications and training are highly desirable.
+ Experience checking and marking up drawings quickly and accurately, with the ability to communicate corrections diplomatically to designers and engineers.
+ background in mechanical design for military or government programs, including defensive systems and launch systems.
+ Experience working on long-term…
