PGS Worldwide is seeking an Aeronautical Engineer in Chandler, AZ for a one-year onsite contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company.
The Aeronautical Engineer will support missile system development within a mechanical and energetics engineering environment. This role includes designing major missile system components, developing layouts and design proposals, evaluating structural and manufacturing factors, supporting drawings and specifications, and helping develop and test missile systems and related hardware.
Required Skills
• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering.
• U.S. citizenship required.
• Ability to obtain a security clearance in the future.
• Proficiency with an advanced 3D CAD package.
• Experience generating engineering drawings for procurement.
• Experience with Design for Manufacture.
• Experience applying GD&T.
• Ability to apply first-order structural analysis and hand calculations to support product design.
• Strong mechanical aptitude.
• Experience working on mechanical systems in a professional or personal setting.
• Experience working with multidisciplinary teams toward a common goal.
• Understanding of material science as it applies to aerospace metallic materials.
• Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Ability to support onsite work in Chandler, AZ.
Preferred Skills
• Siemens NX experience.
• Advanced training or certification in GD&T per ASME Y14.5.
• Machine shop experience programming or operating CNC mills or lathes for aerospace hardware.
• Active Department of Defense Secret clearance or higher.
• Understanding of material science as it applies to aerospace composite and non-metallic materials.
What You’ll Do
• Design major components or portions of missile systems.
• Develop and improve products while supporting manufacturing operations.
• Create preliminary layouts, sketches, notes, and design proposal materials.
• Evaluate design factors including structural performance, thermal considerations, manufacturability, material availability, interchangeability, replaceability, strength-to-weight efficiency, specifications, and cost.
• Coordinate with engineering and manufacturing organizations affected by design development.
• Create layouts of complex assemblies and detailed parts for devices, mechanisms, and structures.
• Review completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, standards compliance, specification alignment, calculation accuracy, and dimensioning accuracy.
• Design, develop, and test missile systems and related parts.
• Establish structural specifications.
• Perform stress analysis and support performance testing.

• 9/80A schedule.

• $81.21 per hour
