Entry-level government lending support for FHA, VA and USDA loan programs.
Position SummaryThe Government Team Specialist is an entry-level operations role supporting loan officers, processors, and operations partners with government loan tasks across Federal Housing Administration (FHA), Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) programs. The specialist completes assigned agency and lender portal work, tracks request status, identifies missing information and keeps internal partners informed. Training is provided on government loan processes, agency systems and lender portals.
Key Responsibilities VA Services- Process VA appraisal orders and Certificate of Eligibility (COE) requests using established procedures and checklists. Confirm required borrower, property, loan and sponsor information before submission.
- Monitor open requests, resolve missing information and deliver status updates and completed documents to the requesting team member.
- Order non-delegated FHA case numbers, complete Credit Alert Verification Reporting System (CAIVRS) checks, run FHA case queries and prepare FHA refinance worksheets.
- Complete applicable requests through UWM and Sun West portals when lender-specific workflows require direct entry.
- Review submitted data against the loan origination system and supporting documents. Correct routine discrepancies or elevate issues before they delay the file.
- Run the Guaranteed Underwriting System (GUS) for USDA loan files and provide findings or results to the appropriate operations partner.
- Provide established instructions for requesting individual GUS credentials and obtaining lender sponsorship. Confirm access requests reach the correct lender contact.
- Manage assigned items in the shared Government Team request queue. Prioritize work based on loan milestones, urgency and service expectations.
- Communicate request status, outstanding items, expected next steps and unresolved roadblocks in a clear and timely manner.
- Maintain complete notes, supporting documents and an audit-ready record of each request and action taken.
- Partner with loan officers, processors, underwriters, lenders and Compliance on complex, incomplete or unusual files.
- Protect borrower and lender information. Follow company access, privacy, security and document-retention requirements.
- Learn agency, investor and lender processes. Help update job aids, procedures and team training materials as directed.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- No prior mortgage experience is required. Training is provided.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate data entry and document review.
- Ability to follow written procedures, checklists and established workflows.
- Comfort learning a loan origination system, lender portals, government systems and document-management tools.
- Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and follow requests through completion.
- Clear written and verbal communication with a service-focused approach.
- Sound judgment when handling confidential borrower, loan and company information.
- Administrative support, customer service, data entry or financial services experience.
- Exposure to mortgage lending, banking or another regulated industry.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace or web-based portals.
- Exposure to UWM, Sun West, FHA, VA or USDA systems is helpful but not required.
