About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Payroll & Benefits Manager to lead payroll operations and benefits administration for a growing, multi-state workforce of 100+ employees.
This role is heavily payroll-focused (approximately 90% payroll / 10% benefits initially) and requires a true payroll professional with depth, precision, and strong internal controls experience. What You’ll Be Doing Payroll Leadership (Primary Focus)- Process bi-monthly and off-cycle payrolls accurately and on time
- Manage equity vesting events, bonuses, terminations, and adjustments
- Administer multi-state payroll including tax compliance across varying state laws
- Maintain strong internal controls (including SOX compliance and audit readiness)
- Partner with Finance on reconciliations, reporting, and month/quarter-end close
- Oversee payroll data accuracy within HRIS systems
- Continuously improve payroll processes, automation, and system integrations
- Oversee open enrollment and 401(k) administration
- Manage leave programs (FMLA, STD/LTD, parental leave, time-off plans)
- Support equity compensation programs (RSA grants, vesting, forfeitures)
- Coordinate with benefit vendors and brokerage systems
Prepare routine and ad hoc payroll and benefits reporting
- ✔ 7+ years of payroll experience with demonstrated depth and ownership
- ✔ Experience in a public company environment preferred
- ✔ Strong understanding of SOX controls and audit requirements
- ✔ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, HR, Business or related field
- ✔ Payroll systems proficiency (Paycor preferred) + advanced Excel skills
- ✔ Experience administering equity compensation through payroll
- ✔ Strong communicator and active listener
- Exceptional attention to detail
- High integrity and discretion with sensitive information
- Ability to investigate and resolve complex payroll discrepancies
- Strong cross‑functional partnership skills (HR + Finance)
