Position Summary:The Mechatronic Maintenance Technician I supports the reliability, uptime, and safety of our manufacturing operations. This hands-on role focuses on preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of automated and CNC equipment, including robotic cells, laser systems, conveyors, presses, and other production machinery.
This position is ideal for an early-career or developing maintenance technician who is mechanically inclined, safety-focused, and eager to build skills in automation, robotics, and industrial maintenance.
Primary work location is Chandler, AZ
, with occasional support at our Tempe facility (paid travel time).
Automation, Robotics & CNC Equipment
- Assist with troubleshooting automated equipment issues (robot faults, sensors, interlocks, jams, misfeeds)
- Perform routine inspections and basic PMs on robotic cells and CNC equipment
- Support laser system upkeep (cleaning, inspections, safety interlocks, basic PM tasks)
- Replace common automation components: sensors, photo-eyes, proximity switches, relays, fuses, solenoids
- Complete scheduled PMs using the CMMS (FIIX)
- Lubrication, belt/chain inspection, alignment, wear checks
- Identify early signs of failure (noise, vibration, heat, leaks) and report findings
- Diagnose and repair basic mechanical issues (bearings, belts, rollers, gearboxes, guarding)
- Assist with basic electrical troubleshooting (verify power, connections, motors, drives)
- Perform basic pneumatic maintenance (air lines, fittings, regulators, cylinders)
- Follow all safety procedures including LOTO, PPE, machine guarding, and laser safety
- Document work completed in CMMS (repairs, PMs, parts used)
- Maintain clean, organized work areas (5S)
- Support production teams during changeovers and startups
- High school diploma or GED
- 2+ years of experience in industrial maintenance, manufacturing, or automation preferred OR relevant technical training (trade school, community college, military) required
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to use hand and power tools
- Willingness to learn robotics, automation, and laser systems
- Ability to read procedures, drawings, and safety instructions
- Ability to lift up to ~50 lbs and work in an industrial environment
Skills:
- Mechatronics, electromechanical, or industrial maintenance coursework
- Exposure to:
- Robotics (Fanuc, ABB, Yaskawa, KUKA)
- PLC/HMI (Allen-Bradley or Siemens – basic I/O)
- CNC equipment
- VFDs, motor controls, industrial sensors
- Pneumatics / conveyors / material handling
- OSHA, LOTO, or NFPA 70E training
While performing the duties of this job, the work is performed partially in an office setting, some work is performed on the production floor, and outside in weather conditions. The employee works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock and vibration.
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate and occasionally loud when using tools.
