POSITION SUMMARY:
The Local Missions Pastor will champion local missions and service initiatives that meet the needs of our surrounding community while connecting people to Christ and Compass Christian Church. This role will lead teams and develop strategies that equip the church body to love our neighbors in practical ways, build bridges to the gospel, and create opportunities for people to find and follow Jesus through local mission efforts.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provide leadership, vision, and strategy for Compass’s local missions efforts, ensuring they align with the overall mission to “lead people to find and follow Jesus.”
- Identify and develop partnerships with local organizations that serve vulnerable populations, meet practical needs, and open doors for gospel conversations.
- Lead Compass initiatives such as service projects, food/clothing drives, school partnerships, neighborhood outreach events, and other community-focused efforts.
- Equip and mobilize Compass members for hands-on serving opportunities, ensuring every believer has a pathway to live on mission locally.
- Work alongside the Groups Ministry to connect small groups to ongoing serving opportunities in the community.
- Develop and empower volunteer leaders to multiply the reach of local missions.
- Manage budgets, resources, and communication for local missions efforts, ensuring fiscal responsibility and alignment with Compass policies.
- Develop and execute outreach strategies that help people connect with Christ and Compass Christian Church.
- Collaborate with the Discipleship and Next Steps Pastors to ensure local outreach integrates seamlessly with the Discipleship Strategy of Compass Christian Church.
- Provide pastoral care and spiritual guidance to volunteers and community members encountered through local missions work.
- Recruits, trains, and develops volunteer leaders for local missions efforts.
- Develop and drive a clear evangelism strategy that equips the church to engage in gospel-centered conversations with neighbors, coworkers, and community members.
- Create training pathways, workshops, and resources that help believers confidently and compassionately share their faith.
- Help develop a church-wide “invite culture” by encouraging members to regularly invite friends, neighbors, and partners from local outreach efforts to Compass services, groups, and events.

Effectively manages events, partnerships, budgets, communication, and logistics with clarity and accountability. - Strong Communicator:
Able to teach, train, and inspire in group settings, workshops, and one-on-one environments. - Collaborative Spirit:
Works seamlessly across departments—especially Groups, Next Steps, and Discipleship—to integrate outreach with the overall ministry strategy. - Evangelism / Multiplication:
Equips others to share their faith with confidence, compassion, and biblical clarity.
Qualifications:
- Ministry
Experience:
2 – 4 years of experience in local missions, community outreach, discipleship, or pastoral ministry. - Community Engagement Background:
Hands-on involvement in service projects, nonprofit partnerships, or community development work. - Large-Church Environment:
Experience serving within a large or multi-campus church preferred. - Leadership
Experience:
Proven track record of leading volunteers, teams, and ministry initiatives. - Educational Foundation:
Bachelor’s degree in ministry, theology, missions, or related field (or equivalent ministry experience) preferred. - Event & Project Management:
Demonstrated ability to plan and execute outreach events, drives, and service initiatives.
