Description:
Travelers are required to pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to accepting an offer.
The passing score is 80%, and there are a maximum of two attempts allowed.
Failure to pass will result in a do-not-use status for six months.
Travelers will take a pass/fail Sim lab on the first day of orientation.
Study guides will be provided.
The unit has 18 LDRP beds, 14 OB triage beds, and 8 antepartum beds.
The average number of deliveries is between 8 to 10 per day, totaling approximately 3863 per year.
There are 2 fully equipped operating rooms for C-sections.
Nurse-to-patient ratios generally follow established guidelines with most assignments being safe.
Typically, the ratios are 2:1, depending on acuity, and can extend to 4:1 in Antepartum.
For C-sections, it is 1:1.
The electronic medical record system used is Cerner, and fetal monitoring is done through Fetal Link.
Charge nurses are available, and there are no nurse aides.
Weekend shifts are required, with a total of four per schedule, and floating may occur as needed.
Call and standby are voluntary.
Holiday coverage is preferred if available.
No tele or vents are handled in this unit.
Anesthesia and respiratory therapists are available 24/7.
The environment caters to laboring or preterm pregnant patients with gestations 28 weeks and greater.
The facility operates as a Level II Emergency Qualified facility and is also a Level 1 Trauma Center.
Travelers must confidently circulate and recover C-sections.
There is a policy that allows cancellations of up to four shifts during the assignment.
Required competencies include the ability to titrate Pitocin and Magnesium Sulfate according to protocols.
