ResponsibilitiesThe RN’s practice is guided by the ANA Standard for Professional Nurse and Code of Ethics.
- Maintain knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices, concepts, and procedures as applied to the care of the patient population served.
- Record patients’ medical history and symptoms; help perform diagnostic tests and analyze results.
- Operate medical equipment, administer treatments and medications, and assist with patient follow‑up and rehabilitation.
- Establish or contribute to a patient care plan that includes medication administration, IV line management, therapies, observation, and collaboration with physicians and other clinicians.
- Tutor patients and families on illness or injury management, post‑treatment and home‑care needs, diet, nutrition, exercise, and self‑medication.
- Provide direction to licensed practical nurses and nursing aides, delegating tasks appropriately.
- Precept new hires and students, assisting them in completing competency tasks and enhancing knowledge in nursing management and patient care.
- Support clinical knowledge and skill advancement, contributing to continuous improvement in care delivery.
- Collect health data systematically, prioritize data collection based on patient condition or needs, involve family.
- Analyze assessment data, determine diagnoses, and use nursing diagnoses to develop, implement, evaluate, and revise a patient plan of care that is family‑centered, developmentally and age‑appropriate, and culturally relevant.
- Identify individualized expected outcomes based on specific health problems.
- Implement interventions, initiate treatments, medications, emergency and resuscitative measures as appropriate.
- Provide nursing care addressing physical, emotional, spiritual, and social‑cultural needs using a family‑centered approach.
- Document observations, nursing interventions, therapeutic measures, monitoring data, and other relevant information in a retrievable form.
- Evaluate progress toward outcomes, maintain and enhance patient outcomes while promoting cost‑effective high‑quality healthcare.
- Continuously evaluate nursing practice against professional standards, statutes, regulations, and system policies; maintain current knowledge in nursing practice.
- Integrate ethical principles and cultural competencies into all aspects of practice.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary team members, peers, and other health‑care providers through positive role‑modeling and participation in preceptor/mentor programs.
- Develop and evaluate evidence‑based standards of care; identify practice changes and facilitate their adoption and adaptation.
- Use evidence‑based research to identify strategies for improving nursing practice and patient outcomes.
- Plan and deliver patient care considering safety, effectiveness, and cost, utilizing resources efficiently.
- Associate’s or Diploma in Nursing; must complete a BSN within 60 months of hire or have 5+ years Registered Nurse experience.
- Prerequisite for stroke patient care: see addendum for specific education requirements.
- Bachelor’s in nursing (BSN) is required; preferred.
- Minimum 10 months in med‑surg or acute specialty setting.
- At least 1 year RN experience for all float positions.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Arizona (or compact). Must be current.
- National certification for unit‑specific patient population as required; unit‑specific certification as required by specialty area DOP.
