American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Level II NICU/SCN position requiring recent Level II NICU experience and BLS/NRP certifications.
Details- Level II NICU with 12 private rooms and Special Care Nursery (SCN) with 18 beds (POD-based, 6 babies per room)
- NICU ratio of 2:1 and SCN ratio of 3:1
- Cares for babies 28 weeks gestation and above with high-level respiratory and neonatal complications
- Common diagnoses include hyperbilirubinemia, meconium aspiration, RDS, PPHN, IUGR, chorioamnionitis, TTN, chest tubes, passive cooling, exchange transfusions, pneumothorax, sepsis, and NAS
- Uses PICC lines, UAC/UVC catheters, CPAP, RAM and Vapotherm nasal cannulas
- Vent equipment includes Puritan Bennett 840, Draeger, Vision Bipap, and V60s
- Cardiac monitoring via GE Monitors
- Charts in Cerner
- 12-hour day shifts (7a-7p) with shift huddle at start of shift followed by bedside report
- 4 weekend shifts required within a 4-week schedule (Sat/Sun for days)
- Holiday rotation required in line with permanent staff schedule
- Self-scheduling process with scheduler balancing requests fairly among staff
- Charge nurse responsibilities may be assigned occasionally based on census
- No IV team or nurse aide support on the unit
- RT and pharmacy support available 24/7, with NNPs in house 24/7 and a neonatologist on-site during the day
- Travelers are first to float and may float to a sister facility, though not floated out of the NICU itself
- 2-shift unit-specific orientation with a preceptor
- Active AZ or Compact RN license required, must be active (not pending) at time of consideration
- BLS and NRP certifications required; STABLE certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of recent NICU experience required, within the past 6 months
- Level II NICU experience required;
Level III NICU experience preferred - Level 1 trauma center acute care setting experience
- Must pass a pass/fail Sim Lab exam on foley catheter insertion on Day 1 of orientation
- Two professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months worked, and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years worked, including employment dates and rehire eligibility
- Copy of driver's license required for consideration
- Provide high-level neonatal intensive care and special care nursery nursing services
- Navy scrub color required
- Surgical patients and babies under 28 weeks are transferred to partner children's hospitals
- First-time travelers may be considered for this role
- Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility per state requirements
- Previous direct employment with any facility associated with the health system within the past year is not permitted; PRN employment through outside firms will be considered
