MS/Ortho Unit
Unit Notes:
Auto offer based off of Clinical Prescreen Radius Rule: 50 miles AND candidates may not be full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with Common Spirit, including CHI and/or Dignity within the past 12 months. Minimum 2 years of experience - must be recent, within the past 6 months. Travelers will need to pass a dysrhythmia exam prior to start (with 2 max attempts).
If they fail, they will be made a DNU for CSH AZ and CSH Sacramento for 6 months. There is also a pass/fail Sim Lab on day one of orientation (study guides will be provided with first day instructions).
Unit MS/Ortho # Beds 32 Nurse:
Patient Ratios 4:1 (with 2-3 PCTs on day shift)
Required certifications: ACLS
Common diagnoses/Types of patients: post-op: colorectal, urological, bariatric, hepatobiliary, hysterectomy, breast recon, etc. AND Chemo/Oncology patients
Experience or 'Must have' skills: strong post-op assessment and time management skills - high patient turnover unit
Are RNs required to titrate drips? No
Common titratable &/or set rate drips: PCAs
Are there tele/monitor techs on this unit? No
Are RNs required to read their own strips? What brand are the tele monitors? No
Charge Nurse/House Supervisor? Does the charge nurse take an assignment? Charge nurse does not take assignment, but may have to help administer chemo on/off the unit
Are there nurse aids on this unit/Ratios:
Yes - day shift only. Usually have 12-14 patients each
RT Equipment (i.e., Cpap, BiPap, High Flow, vents, etc.):
Cpap, high flow for palliative care patients only
Shifts & Scheduling (Do you allow self-scheduling? Block scheduling?): self-scheduling
Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4 week schedule period
Holiday Requirement: we have a holiday rotation schedule
Is there Call or a Standby requirement? standby (monitored by our central staffing)
Floating Requirements? Yes, to other med/surg/tele units - so MUST HAVE TELE EXPERIENCE
Scrub Color/Dress Code/Scrubs provided? navy blue
Unit/Department specific orientation:
Yes - 2 shifts with a preceptor
Additional Notes:
An ONS Chemo Provider Card is preferred, not necessarily the ONCC (certification). Our unit is also equipped/prepped to admit appropriate patients to hall/overflow space and may need to prep some rooms to "double-bunk"
