Navajo Preference Employment Act

Overview

The Security Officer provides vigilant security services and excellent customer service to patients, visitors, and staff across Tuba City Regional Health Care Corporation (TCRHCC), including satellite clinics and the Kaibeto Creek Independent Living Center. Responsibilities include responding promptly to alarms, emergencies, and life‑threatening incidents with a focus on maintaining safety and security. The role requires flexibility to work various shifts, including overtime, weekends, evenings, and on‑call for emergency callbacks.

Qualifications

Necessary Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED.

Experience: Must have six (6) months of experience providing security services to a large organization, school, or health care facility. Acceptable experience includes armed services guard duties performed regularly or intermittently.

Certification:

  • Must maintain and have a valid State Driver’s License with no restrictions.
  • Must have and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association (AHA). If none, obtain within ninety (90) days of hire.
  • Must have and maintain current Defensive Tactics certification; if none, obtain within ninety (90) days of hire.
  • Must have and maintain current Handle with Care certification; if none, obtain within ninety (90) days of hire.
  • Must complete the International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS) Basic Certification for Security Officer within six (6) months of hire.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Record of satisfactory performance in all prior employment, evidenced by positive references.
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure.
  • Good judgment.
  • Empathy‑led mindset.
  • Good physical fitness and strength; ability to lift and drag 50 pounds.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of healthcare environment and potential threats.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships with hospital staff.
  • Proficiency with computers, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • High ethical standards; no history of complaints, felony, or misdemeanor convictions related to fraud, dishonesty, or conflicts of interest. Criminal background checks are mandatory.
  • Successful completion of job interviews, background and reference checks, fingerprint clearance, and physical examinations.
  • Submission of all required employment documents without false or misleading information.
Physical & Mental Effort

Physical demands include frequent and prolonged walking; standing; reaching with hands and arms; use of hands to handle or feel; pushing/pulling 10‑100 lbs; stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; bending, carrying, and lifting up to 50 lbs with occasional lifting up to 100 lbs. Requires responsiveness to emergencies t have adequate vision and hearing for alarms and communications, and the ability to use a two‑way radio.

Must participate in the physical fitness evaluation completed by the Security Department:

  • 5‑mile timed event.
  • 1‑minute sit‑ups.
  • 1‑minute push‑ups.
  • Sit and reach.

Mental demands:
Independent judgment, fairness, high stress tolerance, decision making under pressure, anger management, concentration, ability to work alone, and adaptability to shift work.

Environment:
The position may require work in extreme cold or heat, exposure to fumes or airborne particles, wet or humid conditions, chemical hazards, electrical shock, radiation, and vibration. Noise level moderate; occasional exposure to heights.
