Mobile Diesel & Trailer Technician
We are looking for a Mobile Diesel & Trailer Technician who will perform DOT inspections, preventative maintenance, light, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment. The position requires independent work, strong mechanical knowledge, and a focus on safety and quality service.
Responsibilities- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections, and follow‑up repairs on light, medium, and heavy‑duty vehicles.
- Adjust and repair truck equipment such as electrical, brake, cooling, starter/alternator, fan clutch, engine electronics, diesel steering, engines, transmissions, clutches, and differentials.
- Adjust and repair trailer equipment including aluminum and chem‑lite, brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps, liftgates, and brake chambers.
- Diagnose, adjust, and repair a wide range of truck and trailer systems using test instruments, handheld computers, and pressure gauges.
- Conduct road tests to verify proper operation and troubleshoot malfunctions.
- Identify problems, evaluate alternatives, and independently manage parts inventory on the company‑issued service truck.
- Maintain, inspect, and perform pre‑ and post‑trip checks on the service vehicle.
- Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks to complete repairs.
- Document all work on the TRAIT application, including pictures, parts used, and findings.
- Accurately complete DOT and other required forms in a timely manner.
- Work independently, manage daily schedule, and meet standard repair time targets.
- Obtain parts from approved vendors and communicate with management to approve estimates and report findings.
- Adhere to all safety, health, environmental, OSHA, EPA, and DOT regulations.
- High School Diploma or GED with at least 3 years of related experience (alternative combinations of education and experience are acceptable).
- Ownership of a set of hand tools needed for the role.
- Obtain ASE certification T8 (PMI) within 18 months of hire.
- Pass DOT pre‑employment background screening and a DOT physical; a DOT medical card with more than 4 months of validity may substitute for the physical.
- Minimum age 21 years; 3‑year Motor Vehicle Records review required.
- Valid state of residence driver’s license and ability to maintain a Driver Qualification File.
- Strong safety, communication, and independence skills.
- Preferred certifications: ASE T3 (Drivetrain), T4 (Brakes), T5 (Suspension), T6 (Electrical & Electronic Systems), T7 (HVAC), T608/609.
- Physical ability to lift, bend, climb, stand, and walk for extended periods; perform moderate heavy labor and repetitive tasks.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain technical issues clearly.
- Critical thinking and decision‑making to identify problems and evaluate solutions.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet productivity goals.
