Purpose of Role
Join and repair metal components per drawings and weld symbols so assemblies meet strength and visual standards. Set up and perform welding processes and inspections, adhering to safety and quality procedures.
Scope & Decision RightsUses heat and hand‑held welding equipment, following blueprints and technical drawings. Sets up and prepares metal components, performs welds with various techniques, inspects the quality of work, and maintains equipment while adhering to strict safety protocols.
Essential Duties and StandardsOwns:
Weld prep, fit‑up, and welding per WPS; visual inspection and basic rework; weld tracking and documentation.
Supports:
Material handling and fit‑up with other trades; equipment maintenance and consumable control.
Recommends/Prepares:
Procedure or fixture improvements for quality/throughput.
Escalates:
Nonconforming welds, safety concerns, or drawing conflicts.

- Prioritization
- Cut, fit, and fabricate parts per drawings for field repairs and installs
- Perform grinding per standards and procedures
- Use hand tools safely and effectively for trade tasks
- Perform oxy‑fuel per standards and procedures
- Perform structural and repair welds per procedure and visual standards
- Perform qualified welds where procedures/positions apply
- Must be able to pass required plate welding test (horizontal and vertical).
- Proven experience performing tasks with limited supervision; reliable attendance; ability to follow safety rules and work procedures.
- Proficiency with trade tasks such as fabrication, grinding, hand tools, oxy‑fuel, and welding.
- Demonstrated work practices including communication, teamwork, and time management.
- Relevant credentials as applicable:
Welding performance qualification (as applicable). - OSHA 10 in the construction industry and MSHA preferred.
- Weld quality (visual/NDT acceptance)
- Throughput vs plan; first‑pass yield
- Documentation completeness and traceability
