Position: Mobile Diesel & Trailer Mechanic II Tuesday through Saturday

Mobile Diesel & Trailer Technician

Responsibilities
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance (“PM”), DOT inspections and follow‑up repairs on light, medium and heavy‑duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various types of truck equipment, including electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters/alternators, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various types of trailer equipment and systems, including aluminum and chem‑lite, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, and brake chambers.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair various types of truck equipment such as electrical, brake, cooling systems, starters/alternators, air conditioning systems, fan clutches, engine electronics, diesel steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials.
  • Diagnose, adjust, and perform repairs on various types of trailer equipment and systems, including aluminum and chem‑lite, trailer brakes, air lines, auxiliary pumps and engines, liftgates, brake chambers, welding, fabrication, and replacement of panels, body, and framework.
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure they’re working properly.
  • Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, using sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and equipment provided on company‑issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate the company‑issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections.
  • Work with and listen effectively to clients and customers to assess needs, provide information or assistance, resolve problems, or satisfy expectations.
  • Manage concurrent assigned tasks, making effective judgments as to prioritizing work‑related activities and time allocations.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, diesel tools, welding equipment, lift, and jacks as required.
  • Document according to company standards, upload pictures of work performed, parts used, and all findings observed on Repair Orders (“RO”) using a company‑issued iOS device and the proprietary TRAIT application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and all other documentation in a timely fashion.
  • Work independently and manage one’s own daily schedule.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity and work within or close to most standard repair times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary for repairs.
  • Communicate with management and support team via email or phone to obtain approvals on repair estimates, retrieve purchase order numbers, and discuss RO findings notes.
  • Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health and environmental policies, and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED and at least 3 years of experience in a related field. Candidates with alternative credentials, such as a degree or certification beyond a HD diploma/GED and ≥5 years of experience, are also considered.
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
  • Obtain Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification T8 (PMI) within eighteen (18) months.

Candidates must successfully complete and pass a DOT‑regulated pre‑employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment.
