Position Summary

Roll‑Off Drivers safely and efficiently operate heavy‑duty trucks and are responsible for preparing, loading, and transporting large mobile open‑top, roll‑top, and compactor containers to disposal sites, transfer or recycle facilities, and customer locations. Driver navigates high traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots and may operate in tight environments, including overhead, while on route. Highly skilled backing maneuvers are essential, to successfully perform this job.

The ideal candidate will be hard‑working and enthusiastic, with an acceptable driving record and the ability to pass regular drug screenings.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate vehicle by Atlas Disposal Industries safety rules and operating procedures, OSHA, and DOT requirements as well as all local, municipal, state, and federal laws.
  • Perform pre‑and post‑trip inspections of assigned vehicles and document checks on standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report).
  • Operate computerized mobile tablet to track progress on route, start and complete stops, and enter notes and landfill information.
  • Immediately report all unsafe situations or service‑related issues to Supervisor or Dispatch.
  • Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required or directed by Supervisor.
  • Work closely with Dispatch & Supervisor to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
  • Immediately notify Dispatch or Supervisor of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
  • Notify Dispatch of service interruptions, including blocked containers, closed customers, streets, alleyways, or potential safety hazards.
  • Communicate customer requests to Dispatch or Supervisor.
  • Identify and report all containers in need of repair or replacement.
  • Ensure the size and number of containers on the route reconcile to the service level listed on the service list.
  • Complete and submit customer tickets as required.
  • Climb on top of containers to prepare the load for transport.
  • Load container on the truck by use of cable and hydraulics and transport to the appropriate facility for dumping.
  • Ensure containers are completely emptied before returning to the customer.
  • Position and/or return containers on the customer’s property in a manner that ensures doors are properly located, and the container does not block driveway entrances or traffic.
  • Follow route assignments as directed and complete end‑of‑day documentation and the checkout process.
  • Maintain radio contact with Dispatch and Supervisor to communicate.
  • Perform all duties as scheduled by Supervisor or Dispatch and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.
Qualifications
  • Hold a current Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License with an airbrake endorsement.
  • 1 year of experience operating a vehicle requiring a CDL or equivalent military driving.
  • Legally eligible to work in the United States.
  • Complete pre‑employment DOT drug screen, physical, and background check, which will include previous employment check and motor vehicle record review.
  • Ability to work independently and on a team.
  • Ability to climb on top of containers to prepare loads for transport.
  • Ability to lift up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, squat, and other physical requirements as necessary to complete the essential duties and responsibilities.
Work Environment and Expectations

The normal setting for this job is outdoors and/or driving a heavy‑duty vehicle. Drivers will report to work at the Atlas Disposal Operations Facility in South Sacramento. Shifts are Monday—Friday starting at 4:00am and shifts are typically 10–11 hours per day. Roll Off Drivers will also be expected to work a Saturday or Sunday shift about every 3 weeks.

  • Use motor coordination with dexterity in arms, hands, fingers, and legs.
  • Frequently climb in and out of the vehicle.
  • Exert physical effort in handling objects more than 100 pounds frequently.
  • Be exposed to a physical environment involving dirt, trash, odors, noise, weather extremes, or similar elements most of the workday.
Compensation Information

Roll‑Off Drivers are paid an hourly rate of $26.00 — $30.00 per hour based on experience.
