Lead Mechanical Discipline Engineer – La Porte Capital Projects
Responsibilities- Lead a small team of multi-discipline engineers (primarily Mechanical, Process, and CSA) and supervise a team of 5–12 engineers.
- Assess preliminary project scope and assign appropriate discipline engineers to project teams; manage transitions and reassign duties as needed.
- On-board new discipline engineers and off-board as required; monitor and balance workloads; conduct performance reviews and mentor staff.
- Lead initiative charters for the RDE Group and provide discipline engineering support to project teams to meet objectives, schedule, scope, budget, and quality requirements.
- Collaborate with internal and external design resources to achieve cost-effective, technically sound designs with operability aligned to upfront project objectives.
- Coordinate with other disciplines and subcontract engineers/designers to ensure compliance with standards, guidelines, and customer requirements; review specifications for materials and equipment purchases.
- Perform periodic design reviews; ensure designs, drawings, technical specifications, calculations, and programs meet codes, regulations, and contract requirements; maintain technical and quality standards.
- Align yearly project portfolios and priorities with Site Capital Managers / PM Leads; document communications affecting technical decisions.
- Review estimates of probable costs for construction across design stages; participate in evaluating equipment, technical material suppliers, and technical service providers.
- Develop acceptance tests, inspection criteria, equipment preservation plans, and commissioning plans; inspect completed installations and ensure conformance to design and safety standards.
- Support and participate in plant safety goals and manage risk related to environmental health and safety, asset capability, quality, and production.
- Plan and allocate discipline engineering resources; manage workload and assign engineers to projects; ensure safe, technically sound, and economical mechanical engineering designs.
- Oversee timely completion of contract engineering and vendor document reviews; serve as the company’s representative for factory acceptance testing and site acceptance testing; approve mechanical engineering design documents (fixed and rotating equipment, piping) and vendor inspection/test plans.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- Ten (10) years or more of relevant experience in the refining, petrochemical, chemical process, or power generation industries preferred.
- Strong interpersonal leadership skills for effective communication, mentoring, and consensus building.
- Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to work effectively as a team member and coordinate processes for results.
- Results-oriented with the ability to drive technically sound decisions; strong commitment to safety and personal integrity.
- Understanding of business drivers, management of change requirements, project management processes, and construction workflow.
- Fundamental proficiency in areas with potential to develop into SME: ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code and Piping Codes; API Standards; ability to organize and track high volumes of detailed information; computer software tools (SAP, Microsoft Office, AutoCAD).
