About This RoleNorth Star Energy Services is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator in the Channelview, TX office to support estimating efforts for industrial projects in the Oil & Gas midstream and downstream sectors, emphasizing mechanical, piping, civil, and structural work.
The Senior Estimator will develop accurate, competitive cost estimates for EPC and design-build projects, requiring deep knowledge of construction methods, material takeoffs, labor productivity, and cost controls.
What You’ll Do- Prepare detailed cost estimates for civil, structural, and mechanical construction scopes, with primary emphasis on piping and mechanical systems.
- Perform quantity takeoffs and develop labor, material, and equipment pricing using Trimble Accubid and Microsoft Excel.
- Review drawings, specifications, and scope documents to ensure accurate and complete estimates.
- Collaborate with project management, engineering, and construction teams to validate assumptions and execution strategies.
- Develop pricing for lump-sum, unit-rate, and time-and-materials proposals.
- Create construction schedules in Microsoft Project.
- Analyze subcontractor and vendor quotes, ensuring alignment with project scope and estimating standards.
- Identify project risks, exclusions, and value-engineering opportunities.
- Support bid reviews, estimate reconciliations, and post-bid handoff meetings.
- Maintain estimating databases, historical cost data, and productivity benchmarks.
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field, or 10 years of experience in lieu of a degree.
- 10+ years of estimating experience in industrial construction, with a strong focus on mechanical/piping scopes.
- Proven experience estimating midstream and downstream Oil & Gas projects (terminals, plants, pipelines, facilities).
- Strong working knowledge of civil and structural construction methods and cost drivers.
- Advanced proficiency with Trimble Accubid and Microsoft Excel.
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, isometrics, civil drawings, and structural plans.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Experience supporting EPC or design-build project delivery models, preferred.
- Minimal travel for pre-bid site visits.
