As a Port Captain with American Commercial Barge Line (ACBL), you will play a critical leadership role in overseeing vessel operations, developing high‑performing crews, and ensuring compliance with all company and regulatory standards. This position is ideal for a maritime professional who thrives in a dynamic environment, champions a strong safety culture, and is passionate about mentoring Team Members while driving operational excellence.
Through vessel audits, crew development, and hands‑on leadership, the Port Captain helps ensure ACBL's fleet operates safely, efficiently, and with a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Supervise the daily vessel activities and ensure appropriate training for all wheelhouse Team Members.
- Facilitate the implementation of programs, best practices, policies for all boats to achieve an injury free work place.
- Ensure compliance with company policy and government regulations.
- Responsible for Team Member issues regarding hiring/discharging, promotions, and disciplinary actions.
- Provide positive leadership consistent with ACBL's operating priorities.
- Audit to ensure regulatory compliance, provide feedback, and examine industry best practices on compliance issues.
- Audit vessels to ensure ACBL standards are in place to achieve continuous improvement metrics and goals.
- Assist with establishing departmental goals.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
YOU WILL NEED TO HAVE:
- 5-8 Years of vessel leadership within the barge transportation industry.
- A license to operate towing vessels.
- A valid TWIC or ability to obtain the credential.
- A valid driver's license.
- High school diploma/GED.
- Competence managing from a remote location.
- Strong knowledge of barging operations and river systems
