Up to 20% (occasional overnight travel)

The Opportunity

We're seeking an experienced Survey Crew Chief to lead field operations and play a key role in delivering high-quality surveying services across a variety of projects.

This is an opportunity for a hands-on field leader who thrives outdoors, enjoys mentoring others, and takes pride in producing accurate, reliable survey data. You'll lead a survey crew, operate cutting-edge technology, coordinate daily field activities, and serve as the critical connection between field and office teams.

What You'll Be Doing

As the Survey Crew Chief, you'll be responsible for overseeing day-to-day field operations while ensuring projects are completed safely, accurately, and efficiently.

  • Boundary Surveys
  • Topographic Surveys
  • Construction Layout & Stakeout
  • ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys
  • Utility and Infrastructure Projects
  • Various Land Development Assignments
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and supervise assigned survey crews
  • Plan daily field activities and project execution
  • Review project scope, plans, plats, and survey records prior to mobilization
  • Operate and maintain robotic total stations, GPS/GNSS systems, data collectors, and other survey equipment
  • Perform field calculations and verify survey accuracy
  • Maintain detailed field notes, sketches, and digital records
  • Communicate project progress and field findings to office leadership
  • Identify and resolve field challenges and conflicting information
  • Coordinate safety procedures and traffic control measures on active job sites
  • Train and mentor survey technicians and crew members
  • Assist with equipment maintenance, inventory, and vehicle inspections
  • Ensure projects are completed on schedule and to quality standards
What We're Looking For Technical Experience
  • Strong understanding of land surveying principles and field procedures
  • Experience with modern survey technology including:
    • Robotic Total Stations
    • GPS/GNSS Equipment
    • Data Collectors
  • Ability to interpret:
    • Construction Plans
    • Site Development Drawings
    • Plats
    • Legal Descriptions
    • Survey Records
  • Knowledge of construction layout and field calculations
  • Understanding of jobsite safety standards and traffic control practices
Leadership Skills
  • Proven ability to lead and develop field personnel
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Effective communication with field crews, office staff, project managers, and clients
  • Ability to make sound decisions and solve problems in the field
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and accountability
Qualifications Required
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 3 years of land surveying field experience
  • At least 1 year of leadership or crew supervision experience
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and navigate uneven terrain
Preferred
  • Experience on boundary, topographic, construction, and ALTA surveys
  • Construction layout/stakeout experience
  • Technical or vocational surveying education
  • Military surveying or related field experience
Work Environment

This position is primarily field-based and requires working outdoors year-round.

You should be comfortable:

  • Working in varying weather conditions
  • Walking long distances and traversing uneven terrain
  • Operating around active construction sites
  • Traveling occasionally for project assignments and training opportunities

Steel-toe boots and standard field PPE are required.
