QualificationsMulti-categorical with Autism, Severe Profound must include grade designation K-4, and must meet the certification requirements as established by the West Virginia Department of Education.
Duties and Responsibilities- Implements his/her assigned program of study
- Bases instruction on adopted curricula for the school
- Demonstrates accurate and correct knowledge in subject field
- Develops appropriate objectives
- Employs appropriate instructional strategies
- Utilizes content scope and sequence in planning
- Fosters a climate conducive to learning
- Follows established school discipline procedure which include the WV Code of Conduct
- Established procedures and rules that enhance learning
- Encourages student's attendance
- Sets high positive expectations for student's performance
- Encourages and acknowledges individual student's accomplishments and appropriate behavior
- Treats students in a fair and equitable manner
- Utilizes instructional management systems which increase student learning and maximize time on task
- Prepares and implements lesson plans
- Begins lesson or instructional activity with a review of previous materials as appropriate
- Has materials, supplies, and equipment ready at the start of the lesson or instructional activity.
- Introduces the instructional activity and specifies instructional objectives
- Directs students to be on task quickly at the beginning of each instructional activity
- Presents reading, writing, speaking, and listening strategies using concepts and language which students understand
- Utilizes instructional management systems (continued)
- Provides relevant examples and demonstrations to illustrate concepts and skills
- Assigns developmentally appropriate tasks
- Provides instructional pacing that ensures student understanding

- Assists students to develop productive work habits and study skills
- Demonstrates competency in the knowledge and implementation of technology standards
- Monitors, evaluates, and communicates student progress
- Follows grading policies and regulations
- Maintains accurate and complete student records
- Monitors and evaluates student progress towards mastery of instructional goals and objectives
- Provides feedback on student's work
- Communicates student progress according to established procedures and policies
- Communicates effectively within the educational community, and with parents on a regular basis
- Follows confidentiality procedures regarding students, parents/guardians, and fellow staff members
- Speaks and writes standard English clearly, correctly and distinctly
- Demonstrates and utilizes appropriate community resources
- Maintains professional work habits and meets professional responsibilities
- Adheres to established laws, policies, rules and regulations
- Interacts appropriately with other educational personnel
- Participates in activities and fosters professional growth
- Is punctual with reports, grades, records, and in reporting to work

- Provides students with specialized instruction based on their unique needs resulting from their identified disabilities.
- Uses peer-reviewed, research-based instructional strategies to facilitate learning in core academic subjects.
- Prepares daily lesson plans utilizing a variety of specialized instructional techniques based upon the unique needs of individual students with a variety of learning needs.
- Utilizes assessment results from psychological reports, academic reports and other related service provider reports to develop a draft IEP to be reviewed and modified as appropriate by the IEP team.
- Writes legally defensible IEP's including individualized goals aligned to state content standards that are reasonably calculated to provide educational benefit to students.
