Harris requires an Engineering Technician to support customers by building, testing, and assembling precision photonic components within larger system assemblies. The role involves reading technical specifications, interpreting engineering drawings, and working with precision equipment such as machining tools, fiber optics, and optical alignment systems. Candidates with experience in electronics, mechanical systems, optical work, or machine shop operations are preferred; photonics experience is a plus but not required.

On‑site work is based in Chantilly, VA with lab and manufacturing activities throughout the greater Dulles, VA area.

Essential Functions
  • Execute fabrication, assembly, integration, test, or inspection processes per detailed instructions and drawings including optical fiber splicing, photonic circuit assembly, mechanical builds, and metal soldering.
  • Operate machining equipment such as lathes, mills, and CNC machines.
  • Integrate COTS optical equipment (e.g., power meters, optical laser sources) according to architecture and wiring diagrams.
  • Assist with equipment calibration following vendor or custom procedures.
  • Communicate regularly with management to meet cost, schedule, and quality expectations.
  • Perform preventative maintenance as documented.
  • Operate wire bonding, photomasking, epoxy application, and similar fabrication systems.
  • Maintain high cleanliness, organization, and reliability standards.
  • Perform precision building and assembly operations.
  • Apply engineering processes and methodologies.
  • Interpret and execute technical specifications.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent with at least 6 years of relevant experience, or an associate’s degree with at least 2 years of related experience.
  • Active Top Secret/SCI with CI Poly clearance.
