Fire Protection Engineer
As a Fire Protection Engineer, you’ll serve as a subject matter expert on fire protection and life safety issues affecting government facilities. You’ll review design and other technical documents for construction activities and operations to ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards.
Responsibilities- Review planning, programming, architectural, and engineering design documents and other technical documents for proposed construction activities.
- Conduct comprehensive fire safety audits, inspections, and investigations of company operations to ensure compliance with fire protection codes and standards.
- Inspect new construction and renovations to validate compliance of fire protection and life safety aspects.
- Witness acceptance testing and commissioning of fire protection systems and equipment to validate functional compliance.
- Assist with corporate fire protection governance and policy, standard operating procedures, and facility design standards.
- Attend professional meetings within the government to benchmark how industry and other government agencies are addressing similar issues.
- Prepare internal briefings, fact sheets, and other communications on fire protection and life safety topics, and support data collection and metrics development.
- Contribute to company records and knowledge management activities.
- 3+ years of experience in the fire protection field.
- Ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance with a polygraph.
- Bachelor’s degree in Fire Protection Engineering.
- Ability to obtain a Professional Engineer (PE) License before start date.
- Experience in the fire protection aspects of facility design, construction, and commissioning, including egress, passive fire protection, fire alarm, and fire suppression systems.
- Experience with the Unified Facilities Criteria, the International Building Code, and the NFPA Codes and Standards, including NFPA 1, 13, 70, 72, 75, and 10.
- Experience in architectural, civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical engineering disciplines to evaluate and critique coordinated integration of fire protection concepts into large facilities projects.
- Ability to travel to domestic and international locations.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Graduate of a Fire Protection Engineering Program, including ABET-EAC.
- Completion of the fire protection engineering written examination administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).
- Registered PE License.
Projected annual salary range: $62,000.00 to $ (USD).
