Position: Technical Analyst with STEM PhD Degree (ETIC) - Full Performance

For sixty years, the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) has developed, acquired, launched, and operated satellites that provide the foundation for America’s advantage and strength in space. It collects and delivers space‑based intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance content worldwide.

Where You Will Work

The National Reconnaissance Office seeks recently graduated or early career STEM Doctorate degree professionals to serve as Technical Analysts. The role involves designing, creating, and exploring possibilities for the NRO mission, especially for complex overhead reconnaissance systems.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Collaborate with a team of subject matter experts to discover, develop, and deliver innovative concepts addressing NRO technical challenges.
  • Identify, assess, research, and demonstrate revolutionary technologies and concepts to maintain and grow the U.S. Space Advantage.
  • Facilitate technology transfer and transitions to/from the tech enterprise into acquisition programs.
  • Prepare, provide, and evaluate conventional plans, designs, design specifications, and related documentation for a wide range of assignments involving complex features.
  • Provide advice to senior colleagues and/or management officials responsible for broad program operations.
  • Research trends and patterns; develop new methods and criteria; propose new policies and practices; conduct technical analysis and field laboratory work.
  • Evaluate the value and applicability of new or improved technology, strategies, trends, or applications.
  • Assess project and program effectiveness with respect to system and operational requirements.
  • Provide expertise and advice on program planning and policy‑making functions covering a broad range of engineering and scientific programs.
  • Initiate and conduct thorough analytical studies or other complex projects, defining scope, objectives, and methodologies, and producing insightful findings that have significant impact.
  • Conduct systemic exploration of problems and analysis of alternatives, presenting trend analysis data and formulating concepts.
  • Plan, execute, and report on original or ongoing studies requiring innovative approaches.
  • Plan, coordinate, implement, test, and conduct projects, serving as an advisor to other scientists or engineers.
  • Perform scientific and technical evaluation, correlation, synthesis, and presentation of important data, making significant recommendations and decisions.
What You Need

• A Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) Doctorate degree in the 0801, 1301, or 1501 OPM occupational series.

• Degree requirements:

0801 Series: Professional Engineering. Curriculum must be accredited by ABET or include differential and integral calculus and courses in five of the following seven areas: statics, dynamics, strength of materials, fluid mechanics, hydraulics, thermodynamics, electrical fields and circuits, materials science, optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

1301 Series: Physical science, engineering, or mathematics with 24 semester hours in physical science and related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, materials, or electronics.

1501 Series: Mathematics, statistics, or actuarial science. The degree must be in a major field of study appropriate for the position.
