A growing engineering consulting firm is seeking a Senior Forensic Engineering & Construction Materials Manager to lead complex construction investigations, special inspections, and materials testing projects throughout the Northern Virginia and DC Metro region.

This is a unique opportunity for a licensed PE who wants to move beyond traditional CMT and play a key role in the forensic evaluation of construction defects, material failures, code compliance issues, and distressed structures. The position combines technical expertise, team leadership, client management, and business development, offering a clear path into senior leadership.

The Opportunity

The Opportunity

While rooted in Construction Materials Testing (CMT) and Special Inspections, this role has a significant focus on forensic engineering and failure investigations
, including:

  • Evaluation of construction defects and workmanship issues
  • Investigation of failed or non‑compliant building components
  • Root cause analysis of material and construction failures
  • Special inspections and third‑party quality assurance services
  • Expert technical reporting and client consultation
  • Resolution of disputes involving construction quality and code compliance

You’ll work with owners, contractors, attorneys, architects, engineers, and public agencies to identify issues, determine causes, and provide practical solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead forensic investigations involving building materials, site construction, and structural components.
  • Oversee Construction Materials Testing and Special Inspections operations across multiple projects.
  • Manage field and laboratory teams, ensuring technical quality and operational efficiency.
  • Review inspection reports, laboratory data, and forensic findings.
  • Serve as the Engineer of Record and Special Inspections Engineer where applicable.
  • Mentor and develop inspectors, technicians, laboratory staff, and junior engineers.
  • Prepare technical reports documenting deficiencies, findings, and corrective recommendations.
  • Interface directly with clients and project stakeholders to deliver successful outcomes.
  • Support business development efforts and help expand the firm's forensic and CMT service offerings.
What We’re Looking For
  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensed in Virginia.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 7+ years of experience in Construction Materials Testing, Special Inspections, Geotechnical Engineering, or Forensic Engineering.
  • Strong understanding of concrete, soils, masonry, structural steel, asphalt, and building envelope construction.
  • Experience identifying and resolving construction quality issues.
  • Proven leadership and team management experience.
  • Strong report writing and client communication skills.
  • Ability to cultivate client relationships and contribute to business growth.
