Senior Systems Engineer
Castalia Systems is seeking a highly skilled Senior Systems Engineer with deep experience in risk mitigation within SIGINT environments to support a mission-critical Intelligence Community (IC) customer. This role focuses on proactively identifying, analyzing, and mitigating technical and operational risks across complex, distributed SIGINT systems and architectures.
The ideal candidate brings a strong systems engineering foundation combined with hands-on experience in signals intelligence platforms, mission systems integration, and secure architecture design.
Roles and Responsibilities
A qualified candidate will perform the following duties and responsibilities, but are not limited to:
- Lead risk identification, assessment, and mitigation strategies across SIGINT system life cycles (design, integration, deployment, sustainment)
- Perform end-to-end systems engineering activities, including requirements analysis, architecture development, and system validation
- Analyze SIGINT system performance, vulnerabilities, and operational risks, recommending actionable mitigation strategies
- Develop and maintain risk registers, mitigation plans, and technical documentation
- Collaborate with mission stakeholders, operators, and cross-functional engineering teams to ensure risk-informed decision-making
- Support system integration and interoperability across multi-domain and distributed SIGINT architectures
- Ensure compliance with IC standards, cybersecurity frameworks, and mission assurance requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical field (Master's preferred)
- 8–12+ years of systems engineering experience, with significant exposure to IC or DoD environments
- Proven expertise in risk management frameworks (e.g., risk registers, FMEA, mission assurance methodologies)
- Strong understanding of:
- Systems engineering lifecycle (SELC)
- Distributed systems and system-of-systems architectures
- Cybersecurity principles within classified environments
- Ability to translate complex technical risks into clear, mission-relevant impacts
- Ability to understand SIGINT intel and how to provide intel analysis reports of specified locations
- Must understand collection systems; technical and non-technical
Desired Qualifications
- DoD or IC experience
- Knowledge or experience with SSA (space situational awareness) preferred
- Knowledge or experience with SCS (space counter-space) preferred
Physical Requirements/Work Environment
- Onsite in Chantilly, VA and Reston, VA (time split between locations as needed)
