Job Location:

Chantilly, VA Job Duration: 3+ Months Shift: Weds-Sun, 12a-830a

Pay Rate: $18.58/hr. on W2 – All inclusive.

Overview:

The Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) plays a key role in supporting the Specimen Processing Department by ensuring the accurate and timely handling of laboratory specimens. This role involves various essential tasks such as specimen sorting, data entry, centrifugation, aliquoting, and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, production-based environment.

Accuracy, flexibility, and adherence to safety and compliance standards are critical to success in this position.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform specimen processing duties including A-station, presort, centrifugation, aliquoting, and delivery of processed specimens.
• Enter patient and test information accurately and efficiently (6,000+ keystrokes/hour).
• Ensure proper specimen labeling and handling according to established procedures.
• Maintain quality and productivity standards while meeting departmental completion times.
• Communicate effectively with laboratory staff, couriers, and other departments.
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace while adhering to all safety and compliance policies.
• Demonstrate flexibility to adapt to workflow changes, shifting priorities, and customer demands.
• Handle biohazard materials safely while practicing good laboratory safety habits.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience:

• No prior laboratory experience required; training provided.
• Prior experience in a clinical, production, or data entry environment preferred.
• Familiarity with medical terminology or laboratory processes is a plus.

Skills:

• Strong data entry accuracy and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Good organizational, communication, and multitasking skills.
• Comfortable working in a biohazard environment and standing or sitting for extended periods.
• Flexibility to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
