Position SummaryUnder the direction of the General Manager, the Operations Manager is responsible for day‑to‑day site operations, including oversight of warehousing, receiving and shipping of product. The role requires planning of inbound and outbound volume, customer communication, space utilization, equipment management and people management responsibilities such as hiring, training, labor planning, performance appraisals, issue resolution, and problem solving. Associates are expected to meet company objectives in performance, safety and quality, and to comply with all corporate and site‑specific policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Develop and maintain systems and procedures for managing operations, equipment and products safely and profitably.
- Manage operations to meet productivity and service goals and comply with client SLAs.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives and propose cost‑saving measures.
- Ensure adherence to KPI, quality system requirements and client specifications.
- Apply sound communication and motivational techniques, supervise fairly, counsel and discipline team members as needed.
- Collaborate with Human Resources to create hiring, training and development programs; participate in performance evaluation and promotion decisions.
- Leverage the right people at the right time to deliver results.
- Inform senior management and client representatives of critical operational issues.
- Plan daily work schedules based on work orders, arrival notices and customer instructions; assign duties to warehouse staff.
- Review volume demands and reorganise warehouse space or adjust staffing and supplies accordingly.
- Deliver effective training & ensure adherence to SOPs.
- Support high levels of customer service for all functions and maintain contact with stakeholders.
- Attend or lead meetings with key customers; coordinate supplier/customer visits.
- Assist in annual budget development and maintain controls to meet cost, revenue and profit targets.
- Manage maintenance, sanitation, security, housekeeping and equipment programs; train on MHE.
- Promote a proactive safety culture; audit warehouse for safety compliance and meet injury frequency rating goals.
- Work overtime as required by business needs (mandatory or voluntary) and perform other duties as assigned.
- Manage warehouse operations supervisors & support staff.
- Ensure team members are trained and efficient with required information systems, including WMS.
- Purchase necessary computer software and hardware in line with Corporate IT policies.
- Keep current with hardware and software technology changes.
- Develop proficiency in client systems.
- Support development of annual operating budget.
- Implement controls to meet service level and performance goals within cost, revenue and profit parameters.
- Ensure budgeting and pricing comply with contract guidelines.
- Maintain standards for sanitation, maintenance, security, housekeeping, safety and equipment including MHE.
- Train team on MHE usage.
- Stay informed of new technology and provide recommendations.
- Achieve company safety metrics, including injury frequency rating, by fostering a proactive and participative safety culture.
- Audit for compliance with safety, security and quality principles.
- Adhere to federal, provincial, or other statutory requirements.
