For over 50 years, the School of Nursing has prepared students for interdisciplinary roles as clinicians, educators, researchers, and administrators. Students learn to address the challenges of arapidly changing and diverse healthcare environment with hands-on experience in simulation, skill-building labs, and clinical settings. Within the school’s Mason and Partner Clinics((Use the "Apply for this Job" box below).), they gain experience working with culturally diverse patient populations in the Northern Virginia area which provides them with the necessary skills todeliver health care where it's needed the most.

Nursing faculty,staff, and students engage in work, study, and research that havemajor impacts on health equity, vulnerable populations,preventative care, population health, and the local workforce.

Serving as experts in workforce development, School of Nursing faculty are committed to challenging the national nursing shortage and producing talented, equity-minded practitioners and scholars.

Faculty contribute to the mission of the School of Nursing through innovative and impactful education, research, and service. The School of Nursing - Assistant/Associate Professor serves as teaching-intensive faculty across nursing school curricula,depending upon the area of their expertise and the needs of theschool. Priority consideration is given to individuals with aback ground or experience in Med/Surg, Critical Care, or Maternal/Child Health.

• Teaches clinical and non-clinical courses across School of Nursing curriculum, consistent with general and/or specialized nursing background/expertise.
• Engages in professional and academic service that advances the priority goals of the program, School of Nursing, College of Public Health, and participates in faculty governance.

• Terminal degree in Nursing (DNP or PhD) or health-related field;
• At least 3 years of clinical expertise as a medical-surgical nurse, pediatrics, and/or maternal/child nurse;
• An unencumbered Virginia Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner License, or eligibility to obtain upon employment;
• Knowledge of:
  • Advanced Nursing Practice:
    Deep understanding of nursing theories, principles, and practices. This includes specialized knowledge in a specialty area of nursing practice and understanding of current healthcare laws, policies, ethics, and economics as they affect patient care and the nursing profession.
  • Must have the knowledge and skills to teach didactic and/or clinical courses related to med/surg, critical care, or maternal/child health.
  • Research Methods:
    Knowledge of evidence-based practice and research methodologies pertinent to the nursing field.
  • Education Techniques:
    Familiarity with curriculum development,pedagogical theories, and teaching strategies specific to higher education and nursing education.

    Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with students, colleagues, and the wider academic and healthcare community.
