About the Position:

The George Mason University Resources Department is looking for apassionate and enthusiastic individual to serve as a part-time Communications Specialist. • Coordinate and implement internal communication plans on key initiatives, programs, policies, or issues;
• Write, edit, and proofread assigned documents, includingmemorandums, marketing materials, technical guides, and websitecopy;
• Perform routine updates to HR's website as requested by department colleagues and leadership;
• Manage the HR communications email inbox, including referring complex issues to appropriate contacts as necessary;
• Update HR's social media channels according to communication plans and/or supervisor direction;
• Create graphics or visuals, including logos or other visualcommunication elements; and
• Other related duties as assigned.

• Strong writing and editing skills, preferably in adeadline-based environment;
• Ability to translate technical policies into plain and engaginglanguage based on target audiences' needs;
• Experience with web content management systems such asWordPress or Drupal;
• Experience with graphic design platforms such as Canva or Adobe Illustrator;
• Ability to work independently and prioritize deadlines in a fast-paced environment;
• Ability to handle confidential or highly sensitive information with discretion;
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail;
• Ability to collaborate across teams/departments and maintain effective working relationships; and
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365 programs, particularly Word.

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, English,or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
• Higher education, public workforce, or human resources experience;
• Working knowledge of web design and/or web accessibility;and
• Experience managing professional social media accounts,including Linked In, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter/X.
