Maintenance Technician I

The Maintenance Technician I ensures the efficient, safe, and reliable operation of high-speed and complex processing and packaging equipment in an industrial facility. This role involves troubleshooting, diagnosing, maintaining, testing, installing, and repairing a wide range of mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems to support continuous production operations.

Responsibilities
  • Perform skilled journey-level electrical work to install, modify, inspect, troubleshoot, and repair industrial electrical systems and controls.
  • Maintain, repair, and troubleshoot commercial kitchen equipment and other complex machinery, including hydraulic and pneumatic systems, robotics, motors, pumps, conveying systems, and cooking equipment.
  • Troubleshoot malfunctioning components of processing and packaging equipment to minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency.
  • Diagnose complex problems related to HVAC systems under general supervision, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions.
  • Repair and maintain heating, air-conditioning, and ventilation systems, including disassembling, assembling, and installing components associated with these systems.
  • Test, adjust, and calibrate mechanical and electrical control systems associated with HVAC and related equipment to ensure proper operation.
  • Complete accurate and timely documentation of maintenance records, work orders, and task records in accordance with company standards.
  • Conduct routine tours of the facility to perform safety checks and identify potential maintenance issues before they become critical.
  • Operate company-owned equipment, machinery, power tools, and testing equipment in compliance with all applicable safety regulations and procedures.
  • Follow and perform all required Lockout Tag Out (LOTO) procedures to ensure safe maintenance and repair activities.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and manufacturers' maintenance manuals to determine proper operation and repair methods.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks to reduce equipment failures and extend the life of processing and packaging equipment.
  • Collaborate with team members and management to prioritize maintenance tasks and support continuous improvement of facility operations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management to support overall plant maintenance and reliability.
Essential Skills
  • Minimum of 2 years of journey-level experience in electrical and heating equipment maintenance.
  • Experience installing, troubleshooting, and repairing industrial-type electrical systems and controls.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience working on motors, pumps, conveying systems, and other mechanical components.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and blueprints, as well as manufacturers' maintenance manuals.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and systematically diagnosing mechanical and electrical problems.
  • Ability to perform all required Lockout Tag Out (LOTO) procedures safely and consistently.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems, including heating, air-conditioning, and ventilation equipment.
  • Ability to test, adjust, and calibrate mechanical and electrical control systems associated with HVAC and related equipment.
  • Capability to work with hydraulic and pneumatic systems in an industrial environment.
  • Ability to climb ladders and extension ladders up to 35 feet.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds with assistance as needed.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions for extended periods of time.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to complete documentation accurately and on time.
  • Commitment to following safety procedures and using tools and equipment in accordance with safety regulations.
Additional

Skills & Qualifications
  • Completion of an apprentice-level electrical and mechanical training program, plus 2 years of progressive experience as an electrician, preferred.
  • HVAC Journeyman's License preferred.
  • Experience working on commercial kitchen equipment and high-speed processing and packaging machinery.
