Low Voltage Technician I

The Low Voltage Technician I supports a technical team by installing, routing, terminating, and testing low-voltage cabling and related infrastructure in commercial construction environments. This entry-level role is ideal for someone with up to one year of experience in the structured cabling or electrical field who is eager to develop hands‑on skills and grow along a defined career path.

• Install work area outlets for floor monuments, modular furniture, and wall locations using appropriate hardware such as surface mount boxes and box eliminators.
• Route and pull cable through walls using fish tape or other approved methods, and through modular furniture and other pathways as required.
• Perform pre‑termination procedures, including organizing, forming, and dressing cables, determining proper length and slack, and accurately labeling all cables.
• Suspend and support cable using approved methods such as cable trays, J‑hooks, D‑rings, bridal rings, and trapeze supports, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
• Build and organize telecommunications closets, including mounting and installing backboards, cross‑connects, racks, patch panels, fiber optic components, and related hardware.
• Install grounding for racks, equipment, and cabling as required to meet safety and performance standards.
• Perform fire‑stopping procedures on fire‑rated walls, including installing sleeves, pulling cable through sleeves, and properly sealing core penetrations.
• Terminate low‑voltage devices and cabling, including copper and fiber terminations, in accordance with specifications and best practices.
• Follow construction drawings, prints, and documentation to complete work accurately and efficiently.
• Complete all required paperwork fully, accurately, and on time, including timesheets, material transfers, work orders, change orders, tool transfers, and other project documentation.
• Collaborate with team members and supervisors to ensure work quality, safety, and adherence to project schedules.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.

• Up to one (0–1) year of experience in the electrical or structured cabling industry.
• Basic knowledge of construction industry practices and jobsite operations.
• Mechanical aptitude and strong willingness to learn new technical skills.
• Ability to install, route, and support low‑voltage cabling using methods such as cable trays, J‑hooks, D‑rings, bridal rings, and trapeze supports.
• Ability to perform cable pre‑termination tasks, including organizing, dressing, measuring, and labeling cables.
• Ability to build and organize telecommunications closets, including mounting racks, backboards, patch panels, and fiber hardware.
• Ability to perform basic terminations on low‑voltage devices and cabling (e.g., Cat 5, Cat 6, fiber optic).
• Ability to follow construction prints and technical instructions accurately.
• Basic understanding of and commitment to safety practices on construction sites.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to complete required documentation accurately and on time.
• Reliable attendance and ability to work the required schedule, including occasional Saturdays.

• Experience in structured cabling installation, including pulling and terminating copper and fiber optic cable.
• Hands‑on experience with Cat 5 and Cat 6 cabling systems.
• Experience pulling and terminating fiber optic cabling.
• OSHA 10 certification or willingness to obtain it.
• Prior exposure to low‑voltage construction environments and basic electrical concepts.
• Demonstrated ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
• Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Interest in pursuing a long‑term career path in low‑voltage, telecommunications, or related technical fields.
