General Description
A Water Truck Driver is an hourly‑rated skilled craft position that performs on construction projects any combination of the duties described below. The driver typically performs a wide variety of tasks, transferring from one task to another as the workflow dictates. The Water Truck Driver will be running and operating a water truck which requires a Class 'A' or 'B' CDL license with a tanker endorsement.
The driver may also drive a flatbed or tri‑axel truck and trailer for the Operations Team.
- Valid Class "A" or "B" CDL with tanker endorsement and a driving record within MVR policy guidelines is required.
- Familiarity with DOT regulations.
- Drive tank truck to transport water for construction projects or to provide water for use on the construction site.
- Knowledge of chaining and binding of equipment being transported (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). daily safety checks of fluid levels (oil, water, fuel) and inspect for leaks and damage before operation.
- Responsible for daily maintenance of vehicle to remain in proper and safe working order.
- Notify supervisor if vehicle needs to be repaired.
- Insert pipe in refilled trenches and other excavations.
- Operate auxiliary pump on truck to pump water into fill to settle and compact dirt.
- Drive truck equipped with sprinkling attachment to settle dust on roadways and streets.
- Saturate flexible base for compaction.
- Drive tri‑axel truck and trailer.
- Be able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely.
- Perform incidental work items and duties included within other crafts.
Education and Experience: This position typically requires demonstrable previous experience as a Water Truck Driver. One year or more of industry related experience operating water trucks or similar equipment is required. A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
Skills: Must understand work directions and communicate effectively with job site supervisors and fellow employees.
Physical Demands- Constant physical effort, including standing, during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Must sit and stand for extended periods, and be able to stoop, bend, and crouch as required.
- Frequently work with hands extended overhead, sometimes with hand power tools.
- Ability to lift, occasionally, at least 50 pounds personally.
- Manual dexterity to hand‑carry generators, lumber, construction materials, forms, power tools, and hand tools.
- Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities on the construction site.
- Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.
- Be able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely.
- Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Environment periodically exposes employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust associated with construction projects.
- Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
- Work may involve substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel, and ready‑mixed concrete.
- Assess work environment for possible hazards and ensure training is adequate.
- Wear proper personal protective equipment and use tools appropriately.
- Speak up if seeing an unsafe act.
- Identify and turn in near‑miss reports.
- Ask for help when needed to perform tasks safely.
- Consider safer ways to perform work and communicate.
