As part of the DSV team, the Material Handler-Warehouse Operator operates forklift and other material handling equipment for shipping, receiving, and picking. Responsibilities include loading/unloading, scanning, moving, staging, replenishing, stacking, counting and inspecting products, and notifying leadership of damages or discrepancies. Safely and efficiently operate all equipment and perform duties as assigned.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Shipping:
Use gas or electric powered forklift to load outbound shipments, move product, and stack; load orders efficiently and accurately according to doors and trailers; follow Standard Operating Procedures. - Receiving:
Use forklift to unload inbound shipments, move product, replenish, stack and store; locate and place products in appropriate storage areas; follow Standard Operating Procedures. - Picking:
Use forklift to pick orders to fulfill client demands; pick products accurately and stage in appropriate areas; stack, package, band, shrink wrap, and label as required by client; follow SOPs. - Quality Control:
Use appropriate documentation to ensure products and orders are received, handled, and shipped correctly; verify quality and report damages or discrepancies; package and label as required; follow SOPs. - Safety, Housekeeping, and Compliance:
Execute safety protocols; maintain a clean and orderly work area; comply with SOPs, corporate/site policies, safety rules, and OSHA/MSDS standards. - Equipment Operation:
Operate equipment including sit-down/stand-up/reach trucks, sweeper scrubber, scissor lift, cherry picker, Aisle Master, pallet jack; maintain equipment, report problems, inspect and perform minor maintenance; maintain active forklift certification. - Maintenance:
Perform or assist in building, grounds, and equipment maintenance as assigned. - Other Duties:
Performs other duties as assigned; may require overtime.
Required Qualifications
- Education and/or
Experience:
High school diploma or GED; 6 months experience in a logistics/distribution environment; ability to operate material handling equipment (MHE). - Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Satisfactory completion of forklift training program.
- Must be able to work in unregulated warehouse temperatures; ability to work in warmer and colder months.
- Computer
Skills:
Basic computer skills; RF scanners; WMS functions. - Language
Skills:
English (reading, writing, verbal). - Mathematical
Skills:
Basic to intermediate level to verify quantities and manage inventory. - Other:
Strong attention to detail, ability to work with minimal supervision, adaptability in a fast-paced environment. - Preferred Qualifications:
1-3 years in warehouse/logistics; 1-3 years forklift experience; current or prior MHE certification.
- Occasionally:
Handling/fingering, sitting. - Frequently:
Bending. - Constantly:
Walking and standing. - Lift/Carry and Push/Pull: 21-50 pounds; reach above shoulder, reach outward, squat or kneel.
Noise level is usually low to moderate. May be exposed to variable warehouse temperatures. The base pay range is $23.00 per hour; actual compensation is based on experience, skills, education, certifications, and location. DSV benefits and eligibility vary by location and division.
